Anyone used the Contract ID 5000491 for National Car Rental at MCO? It's an Ohio State/Big Ten conference code. I am wondering if they ask for any kind of ID. The terms state that it is good for family and spouses so...?
It cuts my November car rental bill by a third!

Reading on flyer talk it may be possible that they want to see an official Ohio drivers License. If you do not have one they may ask for ID from Ohio college.

Typically, those codes are for employees of Ohio State. If you are not an employee, you don't qualify for the rate. Keep searching, there have to be other codes out there that you qualify for that get the rates you are looking for.

I'm not sure if that's a code for employees or for members of the school's alumni association. I've used a similar code with Alamo in the past and I had to show my alumni association card. I'm a member of both the Michigan State Alumni Association and the U of Michigan Alumni Association and the codes brought the price down significantly (same %age off for both associations).

If you have to ask if they check ID, you're 99% positive you already do not qualify. Discussing and/or encouraging use of codes that you are not eligible for or working to circumvent policies of the companies is not allowed on this board.

Woowoowoowoowoo..... :car: You just got pulled over by the DISPolice. :cool2: Get out and put your hands on the hood of the car. No sudden movements!

Actually, I would just like to know if they check for the ID. Because I plan on using my AMVET discount and I am not sure if I will have an ID card sent to me and if not then how do I prove I am a member? Whether they check for ID or not is pretty relevant here. Regardless of whether he plans on cheating the system.

The Big Ten rate code is only applicable to the employees of those universities (plus possibly the CIC schools, which adds Chicago). The chances of checking for ID aren't large; I've been asked a handful of times in all of my rentals, including maybe once or twice at MCO. Though, I think Michigan has a separately negotiated rate with National, because I use a different code than the "regular" B1G one.

But, the real problem is what happens if something goes wrong with the car. If this is the same rate I use, it includes LDW; the LDW coverage can't be waived. But, in following up on any damage, the fact that neither you nor your spouse are a B1G employee is likely to come up. That will void the LDW coverage. Worse, if you have the usual credit card coverage, that won't apply either, because those plans typically require that you *waive* the rental company's coverage.

So, the bottom line is to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that you have other *primary* coverage that is in effect when renting under a code to which you are not entitled. Either that, or drive very very carefully...

Either that, or drive very very carefully...

And watch out for the other drivers at Disney. Good Lord. Has anyone else seen these types of people?? Driver in the far left lane: "I need that exit. ! Move people!" and over they come, across 3 lanes of traffic and right across your front bumper. :scared1:

Even if you have other Primary coverage, it might not apply as the contract is not valid due to the contract code being used to obtain rate. A tough insurance company could easily manage its way out of providing coverage for a claim.
