Hi , would anyone know how far the straw market is from the ship when docked in Nassau?
We are planning on staying onboard when we get there, but saying that if the market isn't to far we might just possibly drag ourself's off and have a little look.

a very close walk from the ship....at most a 1/4 to 1/3 mile......I think the straw market is definitely worth a look....while many on this board think it is hot, closed in, and with too many aggressive vendors, I think that all adds to the charm...DS likes to collect the vehicles they seel there made out of coca-cola cans.....

Not far at all. Walk down the end of the dock and go through Festival Place. You'll see a little town square as you go out the other side (lots of ladies waiting to do braids). Turn right where the carriages line up and go along the water. The Market will be on your left down the end of the street.

The Market there today is just a ghost of its former self which burned to the ground a few years ago. Have a great time.

Best wishes.

Strawmarket, like most everything else is within easy walking distance.

My question to you..if you have been to Nassau before...great..stay on the ship (we wouldn't though..Nassau is a blast), if you haven't ever been to Nassau..why would you stay on the ship instead of exploring someplace new???

I agree, see someplace new!!! We went in June 2003 and ventured in. I would have liked to explore a bit more, but we had younger kids and it was so incredibly hot!!!!! Even the adults were ready to go after about 1 1/2 hours. If you are going in the summer, go in the morning or early evening. I know that could be tricky. We had an excursion in the am so we didn't get out until 3.

Hi Thanks for all your replys, use to work onboard the majestic and was a frequent visiter to Nassau (long time ago though) due to us only being on a 3 day cruise we really want to enjoy the ship but thought it would just be nice for my hubbie and DD's to briefly visit and experience a little bit of what Nassau has to offer. I have to admit it was never a favourite of mine, but I do feel that it will be nice for the rest of my family to experience it and make their own minds up.

It's fine if you are all adults, but just be a bit careful when taking kids there. We were there in 01 so it's been a while, but while we were hanging out in that area we were approached several times by people wanting to sell us drugs (mostly marijuana). I didn't want to have to give a lesson on drugs to my then 6 y/o while on vacation, but I had to. Otherwise, the straw market does have some neat stuff.

Personally I think you're better off walking past the straw market and having a few daiquiris at Senor Frogs :earsboy:

I was on a cruise in 12/03. This was one of our ports. We did get off the ship and walked around. I did this once but would not do it again. None of us like it at all. Found it to be dirty and run down. My kids are teenagers and didn't like it at all. The one thing I wanted to see was the straw market because I heard so much about it, and I didn't like it at all. Been there, done that, wouldn't go back.
