My DH went diving in Nassau on our Dream cruise last Oct. (almost exactly 6 months ago, actually :) ). He just did the ship-sponsored excursion because I'm paranoid about the ship leaving without him! :lmao: We priced it out separately and I think it was only $20 or $30 more to do it through Disney, and we figured my peace of mind was worth that!

He'd heard that diving in Nassau was "meh" so wasn't expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised. He said the diving was actually great - clear water and lots of wildlife. He got some awesome pictures with his underwater camera. I always ask whether he felt safe and like the operators were professionals etc and he said yes, for sure. He liked it enough that he will probably go again this upcoming Oct on our next Dream cruise.

If you're concerned about walking around Nassau by yourself, I've done it and felt fine, but I guess it depends on your comfort level. The first block off the pier is pretty touristy but with cheapo shops, but the next street back is all the fancy shmancy places and pretty nice. After that, it's hit or miss, depending on the block. You could always take a taxi, but traffic can get ridiculous. DH said the ship-sponsored excursion took a bus to the dive shop.

I'm not sure the name of the dive operator, but I can see if he remembers.

The dive operator in Nassau is Stuarts Cove. They pick you up at the pier and return you there in their own busses.

Stuart Cove's is a great dive operation - and Stuart himself is very nice. We spent 10 days in a hotel next door to Stuart Cove's and went diving every day. The water was beautiful and we were able to dive a good variety of sites - sharks, wrecks, James Bond sites, etc. It is on the other side of the island so it is a bit of a drive - seems like 20-30 minutes.

That sounds like them. The name Stuarts Cove definitely sounds familiar, and they were about half an hour away.

The exception to the above timetable is if you are traveling on Holland America, a Disney Cruise Lines, or a Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines ship. Stuart Cove's Aqua Adventures is contractually bound with HAL to provide diving, snorkeling and SUB experiences; with Disney for 2-tank dives: and with Royal Caribbean for 2-tank dives and SUB experiences to some of their ships when they visit Nassau. If your ship is one that we are contracted to provide services for, the cruise line has arranged for special charter times to make the excursion work. In this situation, you will have to book your excursion directly with the cruise line or once on board the ship. This will ensure the proper pick-ups and services are provided to you.

It is certainly worth it to do the ship excursion for Nassau diving.

Yes, you could lie and hide the fact that you are a Disney passenger, but then you would need to arrange your transportation to the dive shop. The shop is quite a distance from the cruise terminal. Plus, after you consider gear rental and transportation, the Disney price is very fair when compared to booking independently.

Thank you all for the great advice i will book it on the DCL and cant wait to go dive these beautiful water
