Nassau Glass Bottom Boats

The friend I was traveling with last week did this excursion on Tuesday. She'd never done one before, and although she didn't regret doing it she said she wouldn't do another one. Her biggest complaint was having to stand (she thought they'd be sitting) to see anything, and the fact that the viewing area was rather small (she thought the entire bottom of the boat would be glass - but I don't think any of them are).

I did one in Grand Cayman a few years ago - and also wasn't all that impressed. For me it's definitely a no-repeat thing.

i did one in nassau a few years back, and it was not worth the money in our opinion. You had to take turns going to the bottom of the boat to the viewing area, and windows were small, and all you got was about a ten minute look.

I have to agree that the glass bottom boat is definitely not worth the money. We had a family reunion about 17 of us 9 of them kids. We felt the boat would be the easiest excursion. Long walk from the ship to the boat. Huge crowd and plenty of fumes down below made seeing the fish a problem.

Is one of your stops to Freeport? When we were on the Wonder we went to Nassau and Freeport. We got off at Freeport and did the the glass bottom boat excursion. With this excursion you can sit down or stand up if you want to. We saw many fish, sharks, and coral. I would suggest prior to going on the excursion to take some seasick medication due to the boat may be a little rocky for your stomach. We liked the excursion and would love to do another glass bottom boat again but I don't want to leave my seasickness medication behind on the ship again.

I can clarify this one a bit - I've seen the 'glass bottom' boat at Nassau. I'd never go on it. Like the above poster said, It's a double decker boat, with some small viewing windows on the lower deck facing down. The viewing area appears very limited.

What you want to look for, and I think only St. Maarten currently has any(anyone correct me if I'm wrong), are called semi-submersibles. We took one of these on St.Maarten on the 7 day Eastern. The entire compliment goes below on benches with windows about 2 foot square covering both sides. Absolutely wonderful unobstructed views.

In Nassau, If you want to see unbelievable sea life, go to Atlantis. I have directions posted on this board, titled 'Atlantis Info/Pricing Inside'. You will not be disappointed.

We took the glass bottom boat ride - don't waste your time.

Here is the itinerary:
* 15 minute walk to boat
* 20 minute ride to viewing site
* 15 minutes spent going over the same tire and other garbage laying on the bottom 4 or 5 times
* 20 minute ride back to port
* 15 minute walk back to ship

Plenty of people could get around the windows, but for the 15 minutes we were actually at teh viewing site and the nearly $100 we spent for the family to go, I would have gladly just spent the time on board.
