Hey all, maybe you can help us out. Our first cruise (pretty much our first vacation ever) is coming up in October and we wanted to take advantage of the shore excursions out there. We've never been to the Bahamas before and I know a lot of people are bored with them, but I am real excited to venture out and see things.

Do you have any recommendations for sightseeing? I really want to see the history and locale that Nassau has to offer. Are the DCL sightseeing tours worth it, or do you have any recommendations for other tours, or perhaps a on our own tour? I think the Sea and See island Tour sounds real promising.

I did something like that but on the original "Disney" cruise the "Big Red Boat." I liked it because we got to see a lot without having to figure it out on our own. We did have to give a $1 or $2 at different stops for tips to the locals who shared stories or did a mini tour.

We have been to Nassau many times, but my favorite time was seeing the history and culture of the island, Sea and See would be good. Also Nassau Forts & Junkanoo Discovery ! Get dropped off in town and you must experience the Straw Market ! Also, 1 street over is the Pirate Museum which is very good.
I won't tell you what year :laughing:we 1st visited there, but back then, the ships allowed the young boys from Nassau to come on the ship and dive for quarters off the pool decks !!

What is the straw market? Is it a shopping district there?

Anything that shouldn't be missed on a sightseeing tour?

The Nassau Straw Market has been there forever ! It's run by the local women ( mostly). They sell their straw products...purses, tote bags, dolls, hats, etc. They expect you to bargain with them. If they agree to a reasonable price, it's rude to walk away. Even if you don't plan to buy something it's fun to walk through the market and get a feel for it.
