Any popular Nassau excursions? Is it a waste? I'm going on the 4-day Wonder cruise starting Sunday and am still debating what to do, if anything on Nassau day...

The only thing I can tell you about a Nassau excursion are the 2 we hated. Hubby and I did a scuba dive but didnt get what we were promised and then we took the kids on the glass bottom boat...total waste of time and money.

Sorry I cant give you a heads up on good ones but I can tell you those two stunk!

Atlantis is fun to just go visit on your own or you can go see the straw market and then high tail it back onto the ship if you hate it like some people do or you could stay and hone your haggling skills for awhile...you could be adventerous and take a cab around the city (we usually do this in 1 port per cruise and have enjoyed it every time) or just get a cab to go to the beach.

We've done 2.

We did the Blue Lagoon beach day. There is a 45-minute ride on a boat. You can rent snorkel equipment and other watersport equipment (kayaks, paddle boats etc.). There is a shallow inlet which is very nice especially if you have little ones. This area is fairly big. There is also a snorkeling area that is a bit rocky to walk into from a beach area. Lots of things to watch even if you don't snorkel. Lunch is provided. It is typical picnic fare. You can take a ferry back at 2 or 4. We took the 2 since it is a 45-minute trip. We had a great time here.

Last June, we did the catamaran sail and snorkel. This was really great. There is a minimun age on this, so check. You take a nice ride out to a reef area. It was a little crowded due to other groups being out, but we saw alot of fish and had a great time. They served rum punch for the adults on the way back. They stopped at the Atlantis on the way back. I'm not sure if they do this everytime. If we had known, we probably would have gotten off and taken a taxi back. We were back around 1 and had enough time for lunch, get cleaned up and go into Nassau for a quick tour.

Many people don't like to go into Nassau, but with younger childern and never having gone before, we felt it was a great opportunity to experience another culture no matter what the economic situation. We only stayed about 1 1/2 hours. It is so close and easy to go to the straw market. It can get very hot and the people can be quite pushy. Just say no and keep looking.

If you have any questions, let me know!
Have fun!

We did the glass bottom boat tour and had a perfectly good time. Our expectations weren't to high. We had lovely weather for a sail around the harbor. Saw some fish and the shipwreck. We had little kids with us, so this was about what they were up for. Wouldn't highly recommend it, but I wouldn't say it stunk or was a waste of money either.

We then went to the pirate museum on our own. That was great for our five year old son.

We were back on the ship for a late lunch and lots of time in uncrowded pools.

We did Blue Lagoon, and it was great. Lunch was crowded and just ok, but it's a great family beach day.

I've posted this a few times for anyone that has asked.... because I had such an awsome experience in Nassau. It's a little known secret. When you get off of the boat ask the cab driver to take you to the Crystal Palace on Cable Beach. It's a beautiful resort that allows cruise guests to use their facilities FREE of charge (a much better option than pre-paying for an expensive hotel at Atlantis... what if it rains?) Anyway, at Cable Beach there is a large pool with a swim up bar and large waterslide. There are tiki huts and lounge chairs available on a nice beach with motorized watersports for an extra charge. I spent the day under my tiki hut with my DD9, DD7, DS2, and my brother's family. We all had a ball. It was almost as much fun as Castaway Cay. And DB got to venture into the casino for a few rounds of black jack. Take some sandwiches with you from room service. It will be a fun, inexpensive, AWSOME BEACH DAY! email me if you have any questions: kaykels@aol.com

Anoter vote for the dolphin encounter...just did it in january when i went on a cruise...had the best time, always wanted to swim with dolphins..got some GREAT pictures too!
