Has anyone gone to cable beach on their own in Nassau? Is there a public beach with restrooms anywhere there? I was looking at going to Junkanoo beach, but it looks like it's not very clean and has lots of broken glass. I found a day pass to Melia resort on cable beach. Has anyone tried this? We will have our boys with us, ages 6 and 9, so Sandals and Breezes resorts won't be an option. Thanks!

For port questions like this, I really highly recommend looking at the appropriate ports of call forum over on cruisecritic's message boards. While waiting for more responses here, it's a very good resource. (and it's entirely possible that the people who would respond to you here are the ones who already wrote things over there in the past...not me, not this time at least, but others)

That's my exct question too earlier about nassau and junkanoo beach and got zero responses! That very much explains why, thanks for the tip! I'll definitely look for advice there, thanks for helping out a newbie! Still trying to figure out how to navigate these boards and not get info overload and stress myself out!!

The bulk of Cable Beach is effectively controlled by the hotels in front of it. There is access to the beach at Goodman's Bay Park, but that park doesn't really have any infrastructure, and on weekdays there might be almost no one there. There are some bathrooms that I think are only open on weekends, and a small children's play area. Junkanoo can be hit or miss as far as cleanliness, but it's not typically a broken glass minefield or something. The vendors wandering around can wear thin after a while.

For ourselves, if we wanted to do a beach day in Nassau, we'd pay one of the hotels for a day pass, mostly to get a nice well-maintained beach, clean bathrooms and no (or minimal) vendors. The British Colonial Hilton is the most convenient to the cruise terminal, but the Melia has a nicer and longer stretch of beach (and fancier pools).
