Driving to WDW the week between Christmas and New Years and wondering what we should see in Nashville? We would have a couple of hours in the evening so I'd love recommendations for a family restaurant and must-see holiday decor, etc... :)

thanks!

Go out to the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. It is decorated beautifully. Also, right there is the outlet mall and plenty if restaurants, as well as bass Pro Shops which we like to do at Christmastime.

Exactly what I was going to suggest. Take the boat ride at the Hotel and consider the Rain Forrest Cafe for dinner at the mall. Call ahead, waits can be long there!

Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't realize the Opryland had boat rides. Is that on a river or lake?

The Rockettes will be at the Opryland Hotel this Christmas. I've seen the tix on sale for $30 pp.

The river is inside the hotel- it is huge and has several parts of gardens etc. You'll want to park at the mall (for free) and walk over to the hotel. They also usually have an ice sculpture/exhibit but I haven't seen any ads yet this year.

EDIT: there is also a real river near the hotel. It flooded the hotel in 2010. They do have something called general jackson's showboat with dinner cruises etc on the river and the dock shares the mall parking lot.

If you have time (it's a few miles west of Downtown Nashville, but I think it's still in the city limits) is the Loveless Cafe. Great, homestyle cooking. The stars go there when they visit Nashville.

Great, thanks for the information. Sounds like the perfect place to spend a couple of hours. Or maybe we'll stay there that night. :scratchin

Definitely park at the mall and walk over. Getting a parking spot AT Gaylord at Xmas can be a real time waster.

As for where to stay, there are cheaper place up Briley Parkway that are close enough to get to Gaylord quickly. We usually stay at the "airport" Holiday Inn.

Thanks, while the Gaylord is actually cheaper than our WDW resort, we probably will stay at a Holiday Inn on points. I just looked at your trip report in your signature. Do you live near Washington, MO? I'm originally from MO, have been all over that area. We go to Hermann in October almost every year. It's such a beautiful part of the state! :)

Not sure when they stop but the Jellystone campfround down there has a really neat light show to drive through. The campground has a couple of cabins you could maybe rent too. Its maybe a 5-7 minute drive to.the mall and Gaylord Hotel. We stayed over the summer and loved it there. Pretty reasonable too!

Cool!! That might be a nice change from a hotel. Thanks!

Yes I do, I've lived near Washington my whole life. We currently live out in unincorporated area West of Washington, and I work in Washington. Hermann is about 30 minutes from me :)

Nice! I was born/raised in Hannibal, and now live in Illinois, but I consider Missouri 'home'! :cloud9:

It doesn't. The poster was referring to a hotel, which is nearby.

Opryland closed 20 years or so ago. They bulldozed it and put up an outlet mall. We always enjoyed going to Opryland. Not so much the mall.

Folks tend to refer to the hotel as just Opryland. Be prepared for a hefty parking fee to visit the Gaylord Opryland. I think it's around $25 a day.
