Or as they showed it on TV the other day - Gordonsville ;) Now that I know what his penalty for Sunday is I can post the thread. If he had been suspended I might have protested by not watching the race. Anyway Gordon's penalty is $10,000 and probation until Aug 06. Jim Hunter said this was the first time NASCAR ever had to punish Gordon for this type of behavior. (In other words, Spencer got lots of warnings before he was suspended, Tony and Harvick got probation and fines before losing points, etc.) While I was expecting a points deduction can't say I'm not happy there was not one, on the other hand I can understand that there are some folks (not in here mind you) who will be upset (livid) about this.

Okay - on to this week's race - Martinsville - another short track but not as much banking so it's not as fast. Doesn't mean it won't be as interesting.

Last year's winner was Jeff Gordon for both the Spring and Fall races.

Qualifying is Friday at 3:40PM Eastern time (weather permitting). This is also the first race where they will use this year's owner's points. Drivers attempting to qualify who are outside the 35th position include:
#00-Hermie Sadler
#4-Scott Wimmer
#14-Sterling Marlin
#32-Travis Kvapil
#34-Chad Caffin
#40-David Stremme
#49-Brent Sherman
#61-Kevin Lepage
#74-Derrike Cope
#78-Kenny Wallace
#89-Morgan Shepherd
#92-Chad Blount
#95-Stanton Barrett

My picks:

1. #24 - Jeff Gordon (always)
2. #6 - Mark Martin (Mr Consistency)
3. #2 - Kurt Busch (his car does well here)
4. #5 - Kyle Busch (why not)
5. #11 - Denny Hamlim (did well last week)

Spare - #20 Tony Stewart

Good luck all!

Okay lets see how I do this week

Jeff Gordon ( be wrong not to pick him here)
Harvick( just staying Loyal)
Martin ( don't know why)
Edwards ( to make DD happy)
Kurt Bush ( cause it's Rustys car)

and spare .......Bobby Labonte ( i just think he is due)

1. #24 Jeff "I'm not Kurt Busch!" Gordon
2. #6 Mark "Problems? What problems?" Martin
3. #8 Dale "I'm in the top 10?" Earnhardt, Jr.
4. #48 Jimmie "Bring back Darian" Johnson
5. #17 Matt "Chrome horn" Kenseth

spare #29 Kevin "So close and yet so far" Harvick

Well... at least this past week I was a respectable 7th as opposed to last week's 27th...

Martinsville... lets see...

Martin (namesake track)
Harvick (He's due)
J Gordon (No more Mr. Nice Guy)
Kenseth (Outta my way)
Dale Jr. (He's WAAAAY past due)

Spare:
Bobby LaBonte (he may be on a roll)

I know about picking the spare but how does that get you points? Does it substitute someone in the top 5?

Well I'm not a Gordon fan but I really had hoped he wasn't penalized. I'm so tired of Nascar and their rules. Nothing is consistent and they don't allow these guys to just drive and get fired up. It makes it exciting. I liked that he showed some passion last weekend.

On to Martinsville:
#1: Kevin Harvick
#2: Mark Martin
#3: Kurt Busch
#4: Tony Stewart
#5: Jeff Gordon
Spare: Jimmie Johnson

Lots of bumping and dents.

1.48
2.2
3.12
4.24.
5.6

I am right in the middle of the pack. Newman climbed up to 12 with a decent finish

They worked well for me at Bristol, keeping the same drivers for Martinsville.

Tony Stewart
Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Mark Martin
Matt Kenseth
Ryan Newman
Alt. Kevin Harvick.

Yes we added the spare because there were a couple of weeks drivers had subsitute drivers (Dale Jr when he was burned comes to mind) and when others had drivers who didn't qualify for some reason or another. It's insurance for the player. No points are assigned to the spare unless I have to use him. And recently one person, escapes me right now, has only been picking 4 and a spare so I've been using her spare every week ;)
