and the best part is I'm going this year!! :yay:

My husband had is retirement ceremony from the Air Force last week (Jan 13th). We weren't going to do it but got guilted into it by his family. We were just going to take a trip to the Daytona 500. So...we had the ceremony (it was very nice) and we're still doing the Daytona 500 trip.

Waited too long (Dec) to make hotel arrangements so we're actually staying at Shades of Green!:tink:

And the best part is I was selected to go to an exclusive Jeff Gordon Fan Network event! All four of us get to meet Jeff and get his autograph! So any other DISers going to the Daytona 500 or will be in Disney the weekend of Feb 16-20????

WOO HOO!!! I can't wait!!! :thumbsup2 How are you doing? Good to hear from you!!!!! :wave2:
Congrats to you DH and on your trip to Daytona! Have a wonderful time! DH and I talk about doing that someday, maybe after the kids are out! ;)

How cool you are going! Have a blast. February came quick this year!
We are going to the Pepsi 400 in July! I can't wait!!!!
With Rusty gone I am gonna have to find a new guy - this is going to be a weird year for me.

Have a fun and safe trip!!!!!

Tori that's great news! I'm sure you will have a great time. I got kind of burned out on Nascar last year and dropped out of the weekly thread but will hopefully be back this year.

My mom and dad surprised my wife, myself and my soon to be 7 year old with a dream vacation package for Christmas. Limo ride to airport from our house, flight to Disney on 2-16-06, Daytona 500 Package from Premier Sports Travel including Disney accomodations at CBR, Daytona 500 Box Seats, and to top it off, the Richard Petty Rookie driving experience for me on Monday before we are limo'd back to airport and limo'd back to our house. My son turns 7 on 2-14-06 and believe it or not, he's looking forward to the limo ride most of all.

lsufan...sounds like a dream vacation. Have a wonderful time!!! :thumbsup2

party: Congrats and have a safe trip!

We enjoyed WDW last year at that week (we left a couple of days before the race). NC Beast and I will be home watching the race.

I am so jealous that you get to go. I have been counting down for the start of the season, since the last season ended. One of DD daycare teachers is going to a few of the races this year, and if she comes across tickets for another race (from family) will give them to us, and has also offered to take the kids for the weekend. How cool is that.

Here in Daytona, everyone is getting ready for all the car action too! The season has already started with the Nextel Fan Fests, and then this weekend the Rolex 24 Hour runs at the Speedway- and even the antique race cars will be running time trials on the beach! If you're a motorhead (like my DH) you'll love Daytona! Some of the car events down here:

Note: If you can't make the race, this Fan Fest in January is a great thing to go to each year - not a lot of people there, easy to see the drivers "up close and personal"
NASCAR Preseason Thunder Fan Fest dates, which will coincide with January's NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Busch Series testing sessions at the "World Center of Racing," will be held on the following days:

Jan. 10 NASCAR Nextel Cup Fan Fest
Jan. 13: NASCAR Craftsman Truck Fan Fest
Jan. 17: NASCAR Nextel Cup Fan Fest
Jan. 21: NASCAR Busch Fan Fest
The Fan Fest events, which include fan forums, bands, show cars, pit stop demonstrations and displays, start at 5 p.m. but fans will be able to enter the NEXTEL FANZONE beginning at 9 a.m. to watch all of the exciting testing action. Admissions for the NEXTEL Cup Fan Fest dates are $15 while Busch and Craftsman Truck Series admissions are $10.

Fans can watch all of the January testing sessions free from the Oldfield Grandstands located just outside of DAYTONA USA:

Jan. 5-7 Grand American Rolex 24 At Daytona testing (all cars)
Jan. 9-11: NASCAR Nextel Cup (odd owner's points)
Jan. 13-14: NASCAR Craftsman Truck (all trucks)
Jan. 16-18: NASCAR NEXTEL Cup (even owner's points)
Jan. 20-22: NASCAR Busch Series (all cars)

**************
The antique race cars on the beach:

This Thursday's events on the beach south of Granada Boulevard beach ramp:

· 10 a.m. - noon, Centennial exhibition races, flyover by vintage aircraft.

· 10:15 a.m., solo beach run by Stanley Rocket Racer with parade lap of all steam and gas cars.

· 10:30 a.m.-noon, time- trial exhibition of steam cars and pre-1912 gas cars.

· Noon, closing ceremony with commemorative marker dedication, Birthplace of Speed Park, corner of Granada Boulevard and S.R. A1A, Ormond Beach
*****************
Then the Pepsi 400 on July 1, and then the Turkey Run car show and swap meet (it's huge! click on the aerial photo of the speedway on this link: http://www.turkeyrun.com/

So you can see why my motorhead DH loves to live down here! Hope the weather is great and you have a wonderful time while you're here! :sunny:

Seahunt, thanks for the info. My dh has still not been to a NASCAR race even as an avid fan most of his life.

We are living 10 mins from Texas Stadium now and we better go to a race this YEAR!!!

Great Job last year ToriLammy on the Nascar thread. Daytona sounds like a blast.

We go to Atlanta in March. Great track for racing.

My sympathies!!! :rotfl2:

Just kidding!

Diehard Tony Stewart fan here, couldn't resist.
This is great for you. I've met JG a few times and he's pretty nice. :thumbsup2

Awesome news Tori! I know you will have a blast. I got to meet Jeff a few years ago and although I'm not a 24 fan, he was still very nice. He actually stopped by our campsite at Watkins Glen to take a picture of himself next to an anti-Jeff poster I had made. Got to meet Jimmy Johnson as well that evening.

Take lots of pictures and be sure to share some of them with us.

Hey Tori!!! Congrats on the Daytona trip, Ginny & I will be there as well. We leave the Friday before the race and will be staying at OKW for the weekend. I know you'll have a great time!! Can't wait for our weekly thread to start again.
