First qualifying of the season and there are significant infractions.
Qualifying times for Matt Kenseth and Kasey Kahne were disallowed following Sunday's Bud Pole Qualifying at Daytona International Speedway after the two cars were found to have "unapproved aerodynamic devices."
NASCAR vice president of corporate communications Jim Hunter said the No. 17 Ford and No. 9 Dodge would be placed at the back of Thursday's second Gatorade Duel. In addition, Hunter said NASCAR will consider the possibility of future fines, suspensions and penalties against the two teams for the rulebook violation.
Hunter said both cars had "holes in places were they would normally be sealed and these were not." Kenseth's was reportedly in a wheel well. Hunter did not specify the location of the holes in Kahne's car.*****************************************************
What started as an agonizing inspection process for Michael Waltrip on Sunday at Daytona International Speedway turned dramatic following his Daytona 500 qualifying run, as NASCAR confiscated his car and a second intake manifold from it.
