Narcoossee's or Victoria & Albert's for DH's 40th birthday dinner?

We are planning a trip this fall to celebrate (among other things) my husband's 40th birthday. DH and I both love to eat . . . we're amateur foodies . . . and have enjoyed the Chef's Table at Victoria & Albert's once before.

DH has expressed interest in going to Victoria & Albert's for the regular dining experience there. So I'll probably schedule it for our upcoming trip.

But after reading several dining reviews and trip reports that raved about Narcoossee's, I'm really wanting to dine there. DH and I love surf & turf and cheesecake, so I know we'll get a meal we're quite happy with if we go there.

Now I'm just wondering which of the two restaurants might be better for DH's actual birthday dinner. I know V&As will be more formal and elegant, but I thought it might be fun to watch the fireworks from Narcoossee's, too.

Has anybody celebrated a birthday at either of these restaurants and would care to share the experience?

By the way, I've asked DH which he would prefer (without giving him too many details), and he's just leaving it up to me. He likes to be surprised on trips as much as possible and let me do the planning.

Narcosse's is a good restaurant but nothing spectatular as far as atmosphere, especially when going against V&A. Depending on your budget you may want to consider a private Dining event at the GF. Someone had posted a refview of such on the review board and it was really special.

In 2007 I celebrated my 35th Birthday at Narcoosee's and DH and I celebrated our 10th Anniversary at Victoria and Albert's!

Victoria & Albert's gave us a personalized menu for our anniversary and we received a special loaf of bread from the pastry chef. It was wonderful and romantic.

Narcoosee's for my birthday also gave our entire party personalized menus that said Happy Birthday Tricia with cute little balloons. They had the customary special dessert and everyone sang "Happy Birthday" It was nice, but nothing out of the ordinary special or wonderful.

So long as you're eating at both this trip, whichever you do on his actual birthday will be nice. You'll get a bit more of a 'party' feel at Narcoosee's than V&A's.

ANY time Victoria and Albert's is an option....you should choose it, IMHO.

The better restaurant by far is V&A. But for the ACTUAL birthday dinner, Narcoossee's would probably be more "fun", especially with the fireworks.
