Narcoossees or BoG dinner?

I want to eat all the food at all the restaurants but will only be there for a week... the struggle is real.

I'm trying to nail down my december plans and had really wanted to try out BoG - I have never been to it. My son (8) has done lunch there with his father and was not real impressed - it was a difficult lunch where the lines were long, his father did not pre-order and then the order was lost and took a good 45 minutes to resolve with multiple cast members. My son did not care for his meal there and even though the dinner menu would be more appealing to him, honestly he was very meh on going back to BoG (but he would of course, he's not a total spoiled brat).

Then I started thinking about doing Narcoossees instead. I'd have to shift around a few things - doing DxDDP first 4 nights/5 days of a split stay and I'd do Narcoossees under the DxDDP portion of our trip (BoG was to be OOP a day after my credits expire). The menu is MUCH more appealing to me and the kid actually got pretty excited about the menu and also eating in an octagon on the water (he loves math lol)

But still... I really wanted to eat in BoG. the flow of our days will be a 9:30-10am-ish breakfast (mostly character meals + boma) and then an early (4-5pm) dinner with snacks as needed in between and we are mostly doing MK during the OOP portion of our trip - I am not really into the idea of giving up a beloved character breakfast for way overpriced OOP BoG breakfast nor do I really anticipate being hungry for lunch between two fairly large meals. But at the same time, the menu of Narcoossees appeals to me MUCH more and would be a much better use of credits (for what I'd order about $110 for my 2 credits with appetizer, I would pay for the kiddo OOP) and a true indulgence for me, a single mom who gets to treat herself rarely while saving for big indulgences like a Disney trip. We would go right at 5pm when they open as this is the best time for me to take my kiddo to a signature. No waiting, less crowded, quicker service... so fireworks do not figure into the Narcoossees experience. We will get on the boat over to MK for MSEP and regular wishes and whatever else we can fit in that evening after dinner.

Why is this so HARD? Sounds like I am sold on Narcoosses but BoG has been in my head for 5 months now and it is hard letting it go. Opinions? Often people say things that make me realize what I really want to do :) do I just need to Let it Go in regard to BoG? Add another day to our trip? lol.

BOG or Narcoossees? Narcoossees hands down! I like to schedule it for about 90 minutes before Wishes, or in December before Holiday Wishes. It is lovely from the porch

We have lake view at the Poly so will do wishes from the beach on our last night, which is also the holiday wishes. That is just too late for my little guy to eat so we will do 5pm. But yeah, I am getting the impression that even the beloved park restaurants do not hold a candle to a signature. I went to Narcoossees once years and years and years ago. It might have even been my honeymoon since we stayed at the GF so 18 years ago. May be time to go back. I just had my heart set on be our guest and I can't do both!

For you it sounds like Narcoossees is the right choice, though you might still want to consider BOG for dinner since it is a completely different experience than lunch. You could also just eat there for dessert only.

I do not think that you will be disappointed. The service and the food are both excellent. IT probably does not matter to you if your son is a light eater, but my girls were big eaters, and the server let them order an adult dish. Both ate the WHOLE thing! LOL!

he is not a light eater. but he does tend to favor more plain food. He did express interest in grilled chicken or grilled steak and I am going to assume the potato puffs are tater tots (he will not eat roasted potatoes or seasonal veggies or anything like that). I will pay OOP for him either way I think. He also would not eat any of the appetizers, kids or adults, so kind of a waste on the DxDDP to use the credits on him.

the dessert choices are MUCH more appealing for both of us too at Narcoossees than BoG. he is seriously conflicted about whether he'd get the brownie banana split or the s'mores. The cupcake is just a cupcake lol.

If not looking at $$, the location of BoG versus the Grand Floridian (no matter that it's the most charming Resort at Disney), - location, location, location.....

We find BoG dinner is the best food of their three meals. Being able to meet and take photographs with the Beast is priceless for me. And you exit inside the Parks for a bit more fun.

Narcoossee's is a lovely menu. The view of the fireworks are better that at Contemporary (we stay at Bay Lake). You'll need to step outside and leave your table (kids love that they are not breaking any rule), so some families find this a very 'Disney' place to dine.

$$ - BoG just 1-dining credit; Rack of Lamb for 1-credit is good value. Narcoossee's is 2-dining credits.

Then again, Narcoossee's may be one of the few places where if you select the highest priced entrees (i.e., lobster), you may be saving money with the DDP.

Do both for 3-credits or coin-flip.

Hey @Lisa F :) I think that BOG (or any other restaurant in MK) is still nice on party night since you're already in the park. If you can swing Narcoosees on another day, it would be a great addition to your list! Mind you, I'm biased since this is exactly what I had planned in December, LOL! Of course if it's a choice of just one or the other, I would go with Narcoosees since this is what your son wants, especially since he's a little meh on BOG. :)

ETA: I'm actually thinking of foregoing BOG and picking QS instead for MVMCP (if my plans push through). I may do a QS and dessert party if there is one available. ;)

I will actually be switching things up and doing Ohana on party day (if I do that) at 3:45 and doing Narcoossees on another MK night when we are doing MSEP (so wed night). I think ohana is non-negotiable at this point. But either way we're doing an early dinner on party night.

Sounds good, if that's the case, then I would definitely go for Narcoosee's on another MK night. :)

I already talk too much so I didn't want to go into all that lol. I'd switch BoG plans to Ohana at 3:45 on the party night (we may even be at the resort already anyway, we are staying there) and 5pm Narcoossees on our resort switchover night from BWV to Poly - even if the room really isn't ready til 4 should hopefully have time to get luggage in there by then and get over to Narcoossees. then boat from there to MK for MSEP and regular wishes.

LOL, it sounds like a good plan especially on the deluxe dining plan. I plan to do the same thing and go to Narcoosee's on my switch day too (Dec 6), which is a Christmas party night. I plan an 8pm dinner though... (hopefully my 2 year old, who is normally a night owl, will be fine)

the upside of going to Narcoossees is we'd take the monorail over, check out xmas decorations and then go to MK afterward straight from the boat dock so the location is pretty good for those plans. I do not plan to be at MK before that, it is actually on the day we are switching from BWV to Poly so we'll be at Epcot in the morning and head over to check into the Poly (I know I can do this online but hoping to get luggage sorted too... need to ask some questions about that)

Fireworks are not an issue as we'd dine early. I am jostling schedule to fit everything in so it would be 2TS for narcoossees on DxDDP (and paying for kid OOP) but was planning to have BoG OOP regardless. It is definitely a better value to do Narcoossees on the DxDDP though, it's like a $110 meal for me with the lobstah. Definitely an indulgence.

does it look like you will still be going first week of december??? I have decided to do the later breakfast (an hour or hour and a half after park opening) and then early dinner thing. Some of our choices are necessarily early so I decided at some point to keep it more or less consistent for the week. Though coral reef will probably end up being a 2:30-3pm lunch, Ohana 3:45, H&V 4:30ish, CA Grill and Narcoossees don't open until 5 so those will be the latest dinners we do. Hoop Dee Doo apparently isn't booking the 6:15 show, that was my plan for the last night but I have become resigned to the 4pm show and maybe will take the boat and complete our deluxe tour of christmas lobbies at the WL afterward. We have no plans that evening but to relax at the resort and watch fireworks and EWP from room or beach (lake view but no clue if we will get requested high room). My kid is always whining that he is hungry when I pick him up even as early as 5pm from his after school program so I think that schedule will work ok for us.

So far my plan is still in limbo so I'm still planning as if it's going through. I did get a good discount for AKL and adjusted my plans to 3 nights of DxDP so I'm really crossing my fingers that we can go. That's great you have everything so consistent. I think most of my dinners will be early- BOG and H&V at around 4ish, the rest around 5 to 6ish. Only the night at Narcoosee's and 'arrival' night probably at Yak and Yeti will be a little later at around 8ish. I figured, we would have a lot of snacks to tide us through and probably a late lunch on those days as well.

DxDP?

Then you can do everything.

DxDP is 3-square meals a day.

And honestly, if you are not doing a Signature every night for dinner, you are wasting money with the DxDP.....

....so I recommend Narcoossee's over BoG for dinner given your circumstance.

I'm paying $577 for 4 nights DxDDP and getting about $830 worth of dining, so I'm doing ok with it. It helps that we are spreading it out over 5 full days so I have more days to use the meals. Doing a character breakfast every morning except for one where we are doing a very early lunch, and 2TS meals 3 days, 1TS the other 2 (but H&V F! package, which is very pricey and hoping for RoL package at Tusker house).

If you're using the DxDP, then you're doing it 'correctly' by enjoying all of the Character breakfasts and dinner packages.

We like F! too.

Skipping RoL until next year so they get-out-the-kinks and don't 'ruin' my vacation.....

But we have Akershus ADR's in anticipation of soon to open attractions in Norway.

Enjoy!!

I have never been to one of the off site restaurants to watch fireworks. Do you feel you get the same experience?
