Just back from WDW and I wanted to thank everyone who helped me with my dining reservations. I had read my negative things about the lobster at Narcoossee's and I wanted to share my experience. One daughter had the whole lobster and it was amazing. Other daughter had the lobster tail and it was wonderful also. I had a lobster tail and it was very salty and slightly fishy. We all tasted each other's lobster so this wasn't just one person's opinion. I thought it might help explain why some people had really "hated" the lobster at Narcoossee's while others loved it. The overall experience was wonderful and I would definately make a return trip there even though my lobster was just OK. I did think my steak was better at Narcoossee's than the steak we got at Yatchsmans.

Thanks for the info. I've stayed away from the Surf n Turf the last few visits there, as the lobster was underwhelming. It's still my favorite restaurant at Disney, so I'll overlook a bit of inconsistency on the lobster:thumbsup2

It's not uncommon for a 'plain' lobster tail to not come from a Maine lobster.

More often, these tail-only portions are from a Spiny Lobster.

The difference between a Spiny Lobster & Maine Lobster are the claws - Maine Lobsters have them, others do not.

Another difference between the two varieties of lobster can often be a tougher texture for the Spiny Lobster.

And for those of you wondering - a Cull Lobster is a Maine Lobster that has lost one claw.

We dined there for the first time earlier this month and my DH had the surf n' turf. He loved his lobster but did not care for the steak (he didn't like the glaze that was on it). I, however, had the crab stuffed filet mignon that was amazing. Later DH said he wished he would of gone with that instead, funny thing is, he was going to have it but decided on the surf n' turf right as the waiter was taking our orders :sad2:.

DW ordered the lobster there during our adults only trip last May having NEVER tried lobster before and she hated it. She ended up trading for my crab crusted halibut (which was delicious) and I ate the lobster. It was not the best I'd ever had but the rest of the meal was fantastic.

Last Sept my DH and I went to Narcossee for our anniversary, I got the whole lobster while he got the surf and turf, most of my lobster was very chewy and I ate very little of it. We went to CG the next night and decided we will go there from now on.

Well this makes me nervous. I was really jazzed about the lobster. Anyone else had a good experience?

Dh got the surf and terf and I got the whole lobster, we both loved our meals. Both lobsters were cooked to perfection and quite tasty. We are planning on going back next trip because it was one of our favorite meals.

I have read older posts that the whole lobster is fresh, while the lobster tails come in frozen. Might explain a lot.

My understanding from a previous thread is that the majority of lobster tails come into most restaurants frozen because the moment they are cut from the lobster they start to go bad. They have to be frozen in order to preserve them. Most restaurants order them in that way because they do not have a need for the other lobster parts and thus it is more economical to just order the tails.

They will also substitute the lobster tail for scallops instead if this would interest you. My wife does not like lobster (for the life of me I don't understand why not) and orders the surf and turf with scallops instead.

On two different trips, I had the surf and turf, and thought it was okay, and then the full lobster, and it was EXCELLENT. I think it's even labelled as a different type of lobster on the menu.

I always get the whole lobster at narcoossees and it's always been amazingly yummy. :thumbsup2
