Hi -

I am going to DL in 2 weeks with my BFF of 20+ years and have ressies at NR for the Chef's Counter.

Is this really worth the money vs. other nice(er) restaurants where we can go to celebrate our "girls only weekend"???

Thoughts?

We are open to go anywhere but thought this would be a unique experience that we would not do on the trips that we have the kids

I like NR but I would rather eat at SH55 if I had to choose. All depends on where your wallet and taste buds are.

IMHO ...

Napa Rose is absolutey worth it and certainly the best meal at DLR.

DH & I went for our anniversary in December and sat at the chef's counter. In my opinion, it is worth each and every penny. We went with the chef's choice (they pick various courses for you based on likes/dislikes and what you may be willing to try) and I couldn't stop talking about it to friends and family for weeks. I dream of returning some day....it was that good! :thumbsup2

We were there in October and had dinner with the family. I think it depends on the perspective. For Disneyland and most resort places, it is a fine place with good food and worth the experience. Here in Portland, I would say that it would be an overpriced place with so-so food. Mind you, I am not a food snob or anything, I enjoy a good corndog or chili burger just like everyone else, but I have been to a enough upscale places to know the difference. I have not been to SH 55 so I can't compare it.

Can anyone compare it to steakhouse 55. We havent been to either, but my fiance and I want to go out to a nice dinner while were there. As far the whole experience goes, it one worth the money more than the other?

How to you think NR compares to Club 33?

Jack

I haven't been to Club 33 unfortunately, so I frankly don't know. From what I understand Club 33 is a buffet style experience and while good, it's not on par with the food at NR (from various accounts).

I would be curious what others here think who have dined at both.

Steakhouse 55 is very good and I do recommend it - Napa Rose is simply a cut above overall. Granted, individual taste is subjective, but I think even the goal for Disney was to make Napa Rose the top dining experience at DLR.

Wasn't Napa Rose literally the first 4 or 5 star restaurant in Orange County?

Another vote for SH55, but it is hella expensive (although in line with a good Los Angeles restaurant).

Sshhh, don't tell anyone I said this, but I was unimpressed with the food at C33 (a friend who is a member invited me). Other than the "coolness" (exclusivity/bragging rights?) of C33, I'd rather eat at SH55.

I've never tried NR, which is a shame, as we always stay at The Grand.

Worth every penny. My Husband and I went there to celebrate our one month married (I know, cheesy, lol) and it was fabulous. We did the Vinters Table 4 course meal with wine pairings and it was delicious. There was food ont here I wasn't excited about when we decided to do the fixed menu, but it all was really really delicious. I would for sure go there again.

If you're leaning towards SH55 though, and still want NR experience, go there for cocktails and apps. You can sit in the bar area, very comfy with couches, have some of their awesome appetizers and some cocktails, for a fraction of the price and still get some of the experience of dining there. We figure that is what we will do next time, since it is pricey and only a once in awhile thing for our budget.

My two meals at Napa Rose were both extraordinary. The friends I enjoyed the most recent meal with are still talking about it a month later.
Steakhouse 55 is a more standard luxury steak place, with good food but not the range of choice and experience available at Napa Rose.

I've been to NR three times and the first two times were amazing. I was not as impressed the last time we went, which happened to be Christmas Day. On certain big holidays (i.e. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day), they only have the pre-fixe menu and I suspect they pre-cooked a lot of the food to turnover the tables faster to accommodate more reservations, so it was not as great as what you get on a regular day. But yea...the food on the other occasions were to die for and definitely the best dining experiences that I've ever had.

I've never sat at the Chef's Counter before but have heard that it is a wonderful experience. I would love to try that one day :lovestruc

Not sure why your last experience was not ideal ... but I guarantee that the food was not pre-cooked at the Napa Rose.

Napa Rose is fine, high-end dining - smaller courses with intense flavors. Darn hard to compare to even a high-end SteakHouse. Make sure you look at the menu posted outside the day of your dinner - there was one time when we thought of going but nothing jumped out at me as worth the price. But my other 3 visits were wonderful.

My son had one weak dinner there once - but it was Valentine's day. So go when it's not a madhouse ( all restaurants are bad on Valentine's day).

And the food at NR is better than C33 imho. C33 is great - the buffet is fabulous, and the menu items are also very good, just not quite as good as NR. More traditional - NR is more contemporary.

I've been to Napa Rose and I'd say it is most definitely worth it. I've been to upscale restaurants in L.A. and in Napa Valley and would say that it could easily hold its own against any of those places.

Totally agree!!!! We ate their twice on our last trip and even took DS who is 8 with us on one night. Best meal I have ever had and I had no problem spending the money.

I have had steaks at both restaurants and by far NR was better. But that is just my opinion.

You know, maybe my palate isn't sophisticated enough, but I really didn't enjoy it all that much. The menu is very heavy on seafood, and 'odder' meat..It was a beautiful place, but just not worth it for my taste (or the taste of the other 12 people with us). There are alot who rave about it though, so it's certainly a matter of taste, and you should try it. My favorite thing they served was the little sorbet things to cleanse your palate between courses...
Steakhouse 55 is very good..the asparagus isn't the best side choice though..
