We are taking our wonderful grandaughter Caitlin for the first time in March 2007

She is two and half years old and we are both really looking forward to taking her to see Mickey and Tigger - her 2 favourites.

My question is this: We have just got her passport and are now wondering whether we require a letter from her mother to show to immigration both here and in the US as we are not her parents.

I e-mailed the US embassy in London about 2 months ago with the same question but to date have had no reply.

If anyone has had similiar experience would appreciate any information they can give us as we want to do what is right and avoid any unnecessary problems .

Many thanks

Grandad John

im pretty sure ive heard that people have had a letter and not been asked for it :) however if it was me i would take a letter just to be on the safe side ;)

hope the three of you have a great time

I echo what Natalie has said. What a fantastic trip you are going to have!

we are taking our nieces next year, and we are taking a lett because the guy next door to us took his son (hes seperated) to the states with a letter from the boys mum and customs actually called her to make sure she was aware of what was happening

My brother took my niece to the States several years ago. He needed a letter from my niece's mom because she and my brother are separated.

I have a Caitlin too, but she's 10 years older than your little princess! :teeth:

Many thanks for all the replies. Will get her mother to write us a letter.

Yes she is our princess and a very special little girl who grandad dotes on!

Cannot wait until March. We have been many many times before but this one will be a very special one and one we will never forget.

Many thanks again

John

how lovely - it is wonderful seeing it from a childs eyes - and I am sure with it being your granddaughter it will be fantastic for you. I hope you have a good trip :cool1:
