Apparently NAMM is a really big convention, and it its running at the same time we are in town. I was wondering how this convention effects crowd levels in the parks.

According to the schedule NAMM is jan. 19-22

Our trip is set for jan. 21-25

I have a feeling this is something I might have to account for while planning out this trip...

Thank you four any insights you may have.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it that much. NAMM - National Association of Music Merchants. It's a convention where most of the major music industry manufacturers show off their new stuff. It's a lot of guys from music stores getting swag and deciding if there is something they want to carry in their store. It may bring attendance in the parks up a little, but it won't be like when the cheerleading competition is down there!!

My BIL owns a music store and attends the NAMM each year. The last 2 years, he has brought my DSis with him, and another, more local DSis and I join her at DL for a sister's trip. We are going again next Friday, 1/20! We have never had a problem with the crowds, in fact, it's one of the nicer times of the year to go (barring some rain, but I actually prefer the rain... even less crowds!) I wouldn't worry about it whatsoever. Enjoy your trip!

we are going to be there Jan 24th, 25th and 26th but we planned to be after that conference just in case. I'm glad to hear it's not a busy time of year to go although I am hoping for little to no rain.

When DH and I were at DLR a few years ago during NAMM, we rode a hotel shuttle back and forth to the parks, and traffic was a nightmare. If you're staying on-site or within walking distance, it won't impact you nearly as much.

That is a good point, I wasn't thinking of that. We haven't stayed overnight during the NAMM show, since we're local, we just drove down and picked my sister up at her hotel, then parked in Disney's parking lot. I do remember a lot of traffic when trying to pick her up at one of the hotels across from the convention center.

It will most likely only affect traffic and evening restaurant crowds. Mostly the offsite eateries. There may be some bump in the Downtown Disney traffic, but probably slight.

Booking a hotel room in the area may be another problem.

I visited during NAMM's convention in 2007. Crowd's weren't bad, but it was obvious who at the parks was with the convention by their name tags from the convetnion or music logos on their shirts and jackets. Their presence was felt, but the parks didn't feel too crowded.

The real impact we felt was that hotel prices in Anaheim were substantially higher during the NAMM convention. Playing with the dates of our reservation made it ovbious that the prices were substantially hiked due to increased demand during the dates of the convention. We already bought our plane tickets, so we found a hotel about 6 miles outside the Anaheim resort area to save money.

Thank you all for the responses... That info helps put me at ease about crowd levels... :-)
