Name that Lighthouse!!

It is called Highland Light and thank you all for the kind words.

Yes, we really enjoyed visiting that area. Too bad my brother moved away...we had a few nice free vacations! :thumbsup2

Now, to keep this thread going...Here is another lighthouse on the East Coast...

That looks like the Cape May lighthouse in NJ.

I didn't have to go into work yesturday, but decided to get up at my regular time anyway and take the 71 mile drive north to York, ME. I've never been there before, but can't wait to go back. What a great little town. Cape Neddick Light aka: Cape Nubble Light is a great lighthouse and easy to get to and photograph. I got there about 5:10am which was about 20 minutes before sunrise. The unfortunate part is that the sun rises behind the lighthouse so getting there for sunset is better.

Here are 2 of the better ones:

I also took a few for an HDR, but I need different software to finish processing them. Hopefully I'll get that pretty soon.

I also took a few shots that were inspired by MarkBarbari. Long esposures of waves crashing to create the foggy look. I wish I had my 4 stop ND filter. There was too much light otherwise. I had to use ISO200 and f/36 to get a 3 second shutter. Even that was a bit to over exposed so in PP I took of 1.5 in EC to make the image darker. Unfortuantly using that small of an aperture showed the dust on my sensor. I cleaned it today so all is good now:

These are the rocks out in front of Cape Neddick Light:

Open invitation to those in the Southern New Hampshire, Southern Maine and Greater Boston area:

I was talking to a buddy the other day and we're going to do a Saturday afternoon trip to Portsmouth Harbor Light in Sept or Oct (leaning towards Sept).

Once a month they have an Open House at the lighthouse from 1-5pm on a Saturday. There is also one in August, but sunset is still a little to late for good light. Sept 27th and Oct 11th are the dates we have marked. We're leaning towards Sept 27th. Sunset is at 6:31pm. This will allow at least one more opportunity this year should the weather be bad on that day. I may do both. Oct 11th sunset is at 6:06pm.

For more info about the lighthouse check this out:

York, ME is a short drive up 95N (maybe 20 minutes) so it could be a 2 for 1 on Sept 27th. Since its after Labor Day, crowds shouldn't be to bad.

I'll post another thread about it as it gets closer to the date. (I've also wanted to go to the Portsmouth Brewery for dinner and a beer, this may be a good time for that)

In 2001, I visited THE lighthouse - The Lighthouse of Pharos, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, located in Alexandria, Egypt. It was built in the 3rd century BC, and stood until it was toppled by an earthquake in the 1300s AD. What can be seen today is Fort Qaitbay which incorporates the ruins of the light house.

My photos were all film, so I can't post a link. However, you can read more and see pictures in Wikipedia:

OK, the mystery lighthouse is in Χανια (pronounced Hania) on the island of Crete and is simply known as the Venitian lighthouse.

Now, if you've never been there, make it a point to get there someday. It was our favorite stay during our Greece vacation. It beat even the famous Santorini, which we also loved.

My dad's parents are from Greece(both from islands) so its on our list of must go places. We can't wait to get there. We'll have to keep Xavia in mind:)

A few different shots of my mystery lighthouse... not much of a mystery, though...

Chesepeak Bay - Baltimore isn't it?

Well done it is a Chesepeak Bay light house but not Baltimore, it is in southern Maryland (the Drum Point lighthouse) although it is now located at a marine museum and is no longer operating.
