Name Help!

We called our DS Dominic for exactly that reason. It's different enough that there aren't loads more at his school but not so different it blows you away either. Good Luck whatever you choose :)

Well there is the obvious (not) of Richard Rich

How about Robert, Harold, Malcolm, Martin, Bartholemew, Nigel, Nathan, Lionel, Bernard, Jonas, Peter. Ok all fairly normal or even old fashioned!

For the love of all that is good, do not choose a name with a "wacky" spelling like Jorjah instead of Georgia or Nathyn instead of Nathan. Don't these people realise how stupid it makes them and their children look? Oh ... and avoid names blatantly taken from American soaps like Tyler, Brandon or Fraiser. We're in England - not California!

Finally, my DW works in a school and she tells me there is one certainty. Every boy called "Liam" is a little er ... PITA (work it out) that you're glad you don't have to go home and deal with.

I disagree, I think the only thing that really matters is that you like the name and that the child would be comfortable growing up with it. It's far more socially acceptable now to have a name with a different spelling than that which would be considered normal in a Christian Anglo-Saxon world, just look at the popularity of celtic names now as opposed to 20 years ago, who knows where we will be in another 20 years again!.

I think it's really a bit shallow really judging what someone is like simply by their name. As an example people seem to think Brandon is a typically American name when in actual fact it's origins are very anglo-saxon.

Hi,

My DS is Thomas (Tom) but on our list we also had Elliot and Ellis.
Friends at school are Will, Joe, Ally (Alex), Angus, Bailey, and believe it or not an Eric and a Granville!!
We also know a Mackenzie and a Dawson, which we thought were odd at first, but now can't imagine them as anything else!

Good luck!

Lynn :thumbsup2

A bit shallow eh? Pray tell, how many chief exec's are called Wayne? I don't seem to recall a government minister (or even an MP) with a non-standard name. Oh, and it seems that teachers must be shallow too.

So it's acceptable for someone to be judged simply on their name is it? I can't see any teachers openly admitting to that without the anonimity of the internet to hide behind as I think that they would be too ashamed.

I don't have a list of all the Chief Execs in the world, nor do I have any desire to research one, so I can't possibly say how many are called Wayne or have a similar modern name but I would suggest that as a different generation move up into into those postions the balance will change.

One that does spring to mind though is Wayne Hemmingway who I understand is a pretty successful man despite the obviuos prejeduce he faces due to his name.

My favs are MacKenzie, Jack, Fraser and Jordan :)

Andru, Everyone thinks that Shelby is an American name but it's actually Anglo Saxon again, I think it's more a case of if you like the name and it suits your child then it shouldn't matter what the spelling or origin of the name is - but everyone is entitled to their opinions - can we please get back to the original point of my post! :)

Nat - DH is called Matthew so I know what the deal is with them! :lmao: (no offence Pokemon Master!! he he!)

Wideeyes - Tyler Joseph is really nice,

I like Harley Jay, or Tyler Jay. I am trying to convince DH as we both can't agree, it was much easier with girls!

Please don't anyone suggest Mickey!! Walter was bad enough!! :rotfl:

oh also like Bailey - but would people think I was an alcoholic?? :teeth:

Hi

:confused3 Always struggled with boys names, glad I had 2 girls then!!

My choices were Joe and Harry when I was pregnant with the girls, although I don't think I would choose them now, too common!

When my SIL was expecting 14 years ago they liked Rio for a girl and Quaid for a boy, luckily she was a girl and Rio sooooo suits her (and I'm sure Quaid would've been fine too!!)

I like Henry, Finlay (or Finn) or Ely.

Good luck with whatever you choose, :sunny:

I have always liked the name Nathan, which was a contender for both of my pregnancies, but Calum won out first time, and second turned out to be a girl anyway. I think Nathan Rich has a nice ring to it. :confused3

I had 2 girls but each time they had Alfie as their boy name - this was hubby's nickname in the navy - NOT taken from Eastenders!

At the nursery the girls attend we have Isaac, Noah, Ethan, Harrison, Aiden, Lewis, Liam, Jack (x3) Jacob, Harry (adorable), Thomas (x3).

If I had the surname Rich I quite like Freddy.

Good luck with everything - hope all goes well.

Janet
