I'm wondering if there are any other Canadian brides that might be able to help me out. I'm getting married July 12 at SBP. I've been trying to figure this out on my own, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I'm wondering what I need to do in order to change my last name after the wedding. All I can find is information for people getting married in Canada. If anyone has gone through or is going through this process now I'd really appreciate some help. Thanks

I know we get a marriage license, but in Ontario you need to also get a marriage certificate. The problem is that when I looked on the provincial website it says you can apply for a marriage certificate 90 days after your marriage is registered in Ontario, which ours won't be because we are getting married in FL. I haven't found info on if we need a marriage certificate as well and how we would go about getting one or if our marriage license is enough.

I was married in Disney back in 2010 and I'm from Ontario as well.
You will be mailed a State of Florida Marrige Record (Marrige Certificate) shortly after your wedding.

The problem you will have, that many Canadian brides have had including myself, is that you will not be mailed the ORIGINAL certificate. It must remain on file at the county courthouse in Florida. They will mail you a photocopy with a seal on it. The problem is...banks and government offices need to see the original certificate.

It can be done. I was just telling another bride that when I went to Service Ontario to change my name on my driver's liscence / health card the girl at the desk wouldn't do it unless I had the original. I asked for a manager and long story short, she ended up calling the courthouse in Florida to verify. This all took about 2 hours

Some of my credit card companies questioned the photocopy, but when I explained my situation they all changed my name without a problem.
