Name a weird teen fad

I thought of another one --- Playing the "Bloody Knuckles" game! Why? WHY??? Oh, the insanity... (and the pain)

Cindy B reminded me of...

black leggings underneath cut-off jean shorts with holes over the butt cheeks, and an oversized (dad's) sportscoat (sport coat? what are they called?)

i was freaking COOL in 1990! and i still have that sportscoat in my closet. i can't throw away some of those clothes that bring back the memories.

How about crimped hair, or frizzy permed teased hair? I think at my peak I went through 2 cans of hair spray a day. :scared1:

I have to giggle at that. Mine was 1987.

I did do the sport coat thing, but not the cut off jean thing. I would wear long black skirt with buttons.. unbutton a good hunk of them, and wear the leggings underneath, sort of like pantyhose!

Flipping the collar of your polo shirt up...mine would never stay up, so my friend taught me how to spray it with hairspray to make it stiffer. With that, my feathered bangs and jelly shoes, I was so rockin'!!!

Oh, there was also a year or two in junior high where fluorescent sweatshirts were all the rage...worn with coordinating fluorescent socks...

I hate the jeans that girls wear today....you can't even call them hip huggers. That hang so low in the front, sometimes even their underwear show! :earseek: I don't like the jeans the guys are wearing as well. The crouch at their knees and the waistband hanging half way down so you can see their plaid boxers! My friends daughter started high school this year. She said the boys have to carry their text books in one hand while their free hand holds up their pants!!

A funny story about those high rise in the butt and low rise in the front shorts. Our neighbor's daughter (who wears clothes I would kill my daughter if she ever wore them!! ) wore them on Saturday (complete with a belly shirt!). My daughter was talking to the 4 yr old grand-daughter of another neighbor. She asks Jeana "How come Kelsey is wearing her underwear outside?"!!:teeth: Out of the mouths of babes!! ::yes::

wearing baseball hats sideways...what's up with that. I guess I am showing my age when I just don't understand WHY, OH WHY...

Putting combs in your back pocket so the boys could steal them at the skating rink.

Mood rings, puka shells, Bonnie Bell lip gloss, Candies stilettos, platform shoes, leisure suits, painters' pants (this was all in the 70's)

In the 80's, we wore shirttails hanging down below out sweaters, big blouses with a low-slug belt around, Docksiders with no socks, and surfing "jams" shorts, to name a few.

I'll have to keep thinking....

The "L.A. Hair Metal Look"--big teased hair with lots and LOTS of makeup, tees tied with a knot in the bottom and tight, acid-washed jeans with holes in them. And don't forget to add your 'scrunchy' socks (in at least two different colors!) with the Reebok Princess hightops. :)

God I was so cool in the 80's. I miss that time. :teeth:

ohh I could go on and on. Problem is I was a victim of these fads. Can you tell I was a kid in the 80's and early 90's??

You could not peg your pantlegs with out Eastlands, and before that Penny loafers!! Going to clubs with blacklight was cool too! We were all "Preppy Dorks" and if you weren't you immediately fell into the "Burnout"- (the smokers that wore all black) crowd.

I have to say this weirdness was particular to my high school, it was across from the Police Station, and of course there was no smoking on school grounds, so all the burnouts would go across the street to POLICE property to smoke every day so I would sit on the bus, proudly wearing my Eastlands watching the police chase them across to the other corner where it was not police or school property. I often wondered why they did not just start out there in the first place.

Does anyone else remember those things for your t-shirt that looked like a belt buckle but you pulled the edge of your t-shirt through it to pull it up instead of tying it? I had about 50 of those stupid things  . I also did the whole gigantic blouse with the four inch wide belt around it (then you bloused the shirt up at the top and wore it with leggings). You had to wear high heals or granny boots with that outfit. The funny thing is that I look back at photos and wonder what in the world we found appealing about those outfits, then a couple months later I'll see a young girl wearing the same stuff. It all comes back around again.

Feathered bangs, Jelly shoes, Flouricent, we called it "tight rolling" our pants. I also remember wearing 2 pairs of different colored slouch socks with our tight rolled pants. I was so cool. I look at the pictures now and wonder what my mom was thinking to even let me wear that stuff. Gotta love Fashion, if you even call it that.

one pony tail on the side of your head (gag me with a ginsu), and also for some reason I wore a flourescent green wide shoe string tied as a tie around my neck with a flourescent pink sweatshirt.
WHAT WAS I THINKING????

We used to call that "skater rolling" our pants/jeans because the kids who skateboarded had to roll the pants out of the way...hence the fad I loved. (I never skated, though!) I still can't stand wide leg or bell bottom type pants...yuck!:D I am enjoying this thread. It's good for a laugh:p

Another child of the 80's here!!!

Do you remember the SKIDZ pants with Vans or converse????

Also, what about the "Bow Heads" - Yes, I was a bow head and had bows to match everything including plaid.

Big Hair and Z. Caverichis (SP.) you know the pants that crossed over in the front where you had your regular pant with additional material on each side that would cross over on the top to hide your zipper  .

Girbahud jeans and Coke Shirts with about 15 Swatch watches!!!

Banana Clips
Coca-Cola T-Shirts
Hypercolor T-Shirts w/ Girbaud jeans!

My Doc Martens have lasted the test of time! I still have them! And they're still comfortable!

We must have posted at the same time! LOL

Where did you go to high school???? Desiree!!!

Usually it's people in B.R. that were familar with Girbaud jeans. I graduated from Central High!

I just sent you a PM asking the same questions!!!
