This is our first year with a grandchild, so that gives us a lot of joy! This year the stars aligned and both our sons & DIL's can join us on Christmas Day, so while our Christmas Eve and general Christmas activities are evolving in accommodate our growing family, we are happy to roll with the changes.
Our elderly dog is winding down, cancer is starting to get the better of him. We knew it would eventually. Not sure he'll make it till Christmas - but we are hopeful.
My in-laws are in ill-health. They have done nothing to prepare for this time in their lives, no savings, no 401K, no nothing. They are not close to their children, and my husband feels the burden to taking care of parents who didn't take care of him, nor bothered to take care of themselves. On top of that they are hoarders and living in a untenable situation. We keep repeating to ourselves, 'can't help those who won't help themselves'.
Honestly though, I find myself repeating those words regarding several different situations in my personal/professional/friendship life these days. You Can't Help Those Who Won't Help Themselves. It's making this Christmas very stressful.
I finally - finally - went thru my Christmas decor and tossed the old stuff, donated the items I don't use and treated myself to some new decor, so this year we will have a lot of new decor in the house and on the tree.
Christmas is CANCELLED this year.
