Well I know we had a thread about the regents before. Just wondering if your child took the Math B Regents did they pass. DS decided not to take the regents and just take the teachers final. He already failed the last quarter, so his gpa was going down big time. I told him that was fine because he was really stressing out, going for extra help etc. All it means is he wont get the advanced regents diploma, just the regular regents diploma. Its ok with me because he still does not even know if he will go to college in NY anyway. And guess what, about 30 kids took it and only about 8 passed. Does that tell the state something. My ds goes to a private school, all the kids can get extra help etc. How did your child do?

Every kid (about 30) in my DS's class passed. DS with a 100 his best friends got 98's

In my school, the exam results were a nightmare. In a neighboring district, not one student passed. The teachers have said that the score grid caused a negative curve. There is also a rumor that the grades may be changed.

My Dd got an 88. I was pretty happy about it.

I hope they are not going to change the grades like they did last year. Yeah lets make a 50 passing, why bother with testing if your just going to ensure that a certain percentage of kids pass anyway.

Just read it in the morning paper. Grading is being adjusted. Raw score of 48 will pass.

Not that I'm usually all for such things, but my DD, who is a good student overall, but has a horrible time with math, was REALLY worried about her grade. She's a little less worried now.

They mentioned an inequality proof on the test which was worth 6 points. The very second DD came home from the exam, the first words out of her mouth were about that very problem. Seems the problem was not expected, even by the teachers, so many kids weren't prepared for it. Said that type of problem hasn't been on an exam in over a decade.

Even the teachers across the state were buzzing about the horrors of this exam. So it's not just the kids. I'm glad they're doing something about it.

So now everyone with an 88 or above gets a 100. What does my DS get a 112? No he also gets a 100. Seems fair to me. Maybe the issue is the teachers, as some schools were more than prepared for the test. Another sad day for NY schools.

my older daughter took Math A this year and did ok. not great, but ok. her school starts the kids on math A in 8th grade, and they take th regents exam after taking two full years of math A. they take the math B regents exam at the end of the junior year. our school has had relatively good results with this method.

for the class of 2010, the Regents are eliminating Math A and Math B, and going back to the old "algebra, geometry and trigonometry" format that I took when I was in high school.

I just came across this thread late last night. My son took the Math B and said he had thought he failed and this is a child that is honor's math. We were away all last week (out of state) so I had no idea that this todo was going on. I guess ignorance is bliss sometimes. I have to assume he passed as there was no note from the school in our mail when we returned and no phone voice mail either. I still do not have his report card, they are mailed out and last year we didn't get it till around the 10th of July. I now very interested in what score he actually received.

Has anyone heard anything further. Also do you all have your scores already?
