I would just like to add - price has been "upped" to $38 per adult and $12 I think per child (3-9). You have to book a room and a minimum of 1 day base ticket but dining plan is for the length of your resort stay not according to tickets - Example: You are at all star music for 8 nights with 5 day hopper passes you would have 8x4 cs (counter srv) meals 8x4 ts (table srv) & 8x4 snacks per person in your room. Everyone in your room must participate in the package. Most restaurants participate in the plan but for complete list check out WDW website. This does include the character meals!!!
As far as discounts you would have to check and see what is currently available - they will not be offered you must ask for them. You are usually limited to 1 promotional savings - you cannot get a promotion and the
AAA rate, etc.
Description of the plan:
Table Service Meal - a restaurant with waitstaff - choice of 1 beverage, 1 appetizer, 1 entree, and 1 dessert - some exclusions included such as entrees or appetizers or desserts meant to be shared, souvenier mug beverages, glow in the dark ice cube drinks. Tip is included in all table service meals but you are welcome to add tip if you want ontop of bill.
Counter Service Meal - Easiest way to describe would be going to McD's, Burger King, etc. and ordering say a #1 - a drink, sandwich, and fries - you also get a dessert here. Your choices are varied - there are places you could get say a sandwich, carrot sticks, water, and dessert or salad, side item, beverage, and pc of fruit but you get the basic idea - walk up to a counter order and take it out to find a seat anywhere in the park - no wait staff.
Snacks - this one is the most varied response from people - according to Disney choose from a frozen ice-cream novelty or fruit bar, popcorn scoop (single serving box), single piece of whole fruit, single serving Grab Bag of Frito-Lay's Chips, 20oz. bottle of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite or 24oz. Dasani Water, medium fountain soft drink or apple juice. People have reported getting other snacks but it is as a CM sees it so don't expect other choices. You may have to pay OOP for other snack items.
Recommended for table service that you make ADR's or PS's whatever you want to call them - call 90+ days prior to arrival date - if you don't want to do this I would strongly recommend doing it for at least popular dining places such as Cinderella's. If you are going during a high traffic season definitely would recommend making them as you can change your plans later but at least guaranteed something. All menu's can be viewed at allearsnet.com (some are older versions) to get an idea of what is to be offered and costs. A few questions to ask before booking a package with dining...
#1 - Do you have an AP rate for room(s) - cannot get dining package with AP rate.
#2 - Check pricing of discounts you can get and if it can be combined with dining package. I ran the #'s of price w/o dining and checked menu pricing to get an idea of food cost. It would have cost us around $900 for family of 4 - 2 adults 2 children and food would have been over that so we would have at least broken even to eat only counter service for the week. I had to give up AAA discount ($100) for
free dining promotion which will end up saving us a lot more on food we would have been spending money on - would have spent at least $1000 on food!!! We will be eating better and be able to enjoy the character meals/sit down meals without worrying about cost.
#3 - Do you eat counter service or table service - if you plan on eating only counter service you may do better on your own.
Recommended that you let your server know you are on the magic your way with dining package as they will let you know of any exclusions. You are allowed to share table service meals - many times they will plate them seperately before bringing them to your table even though it is 1 serving - you do not have to eat at the same place as the rest of your group - if 2 people want to eat at CRT and 2 want to eat at LTT at the same time this is fine. The credits are issued at the beginning of your stay and you use them at your own pace. If you use them up on the 1st day fine - if you space them out and use them over the whole trip fine. Your meals are not designated at all by times - table service/counter service can be used for breakfast, lunch, or dinner - your choice.
Alot of information to swallow but really a very good deal depending on the group. It really depends on your party size and tastes. Good luck with your trip!!!
