Mythos or Finnegan or something else?

No offense intended to anyone with kids :tiptoe::duck:, but ::yes::::yes::::yes::::yes::::yes::
I graciously play 2nd fiddle throughout the park to families with kids - and will gladly give up parade spots so they can get better views, etc. I get that it's kid-focused and that's fine. But those 1/2 dozen bar stools feel like the one spot to get away from screaming little ones having meltdowns. Bar = adult beverages and fun to me. :woohoo:Not little kids.

I love Key West for that reason - no one under 18 is permitted in most of the bars there.

It's tough on the bartenders tips too - I've seen parents with 3-4 little ones take up multiple barstools, just needing a break from the heat. They order water for their kids and just hang out. Meanwhile customers wanting to order shots and rounds can't get near the bar and bartenders are afraid to say anything for fear of angering the parents.

Oh my goodness!! Can I like this post a hundred times!!!

I agree......the bar staff in Finnegans and Chez Alacatraz commented on this when we said we weren’t used to kids sitting at bar areas........one family had four kids sprawled out.......yeah......there should be areas for adults only....it’s funny how some folks change when kids appear.......

Who decided Universal was kid focused.........:duck: :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I didn’t get that memo........:D

I’m liking the sound of Key West ::yes:: One of the places we went to in Dunedin was like that.....kids in restaurant area only and no kids after 9pm......if we had been staying overnight we’d have gone back!

I would have probably agreed with you before I got this instafamily and saw how parenting could be done.

Unbelieavably some kids live in a pretty adult world and have better manners than most adults. I promise parents need a drink as much as any single and I'm certain that we've NEVER had a bartender who wasn't happy we were their customer over probably everyone else at the bar. I took the girl to a gastropub in our neighborhood just earlier today for a Shirley Temple after we went on a nice walk and got our nails done. The bartender was more than happy to see us. Not all families feel entitled to your parade spot, but singles shouldn't feel like they get all the bar seats at a restaurant. Now, an actual bar which doesn't serve food and is all "bar-y" would be different, but heck yeah, we'll sit at a restaurant bar with the kids. I'm just suggesting that not all families run the show were the kids are in charge. Some people live an adult centered life but with kids added. So, if you see us at a UO bar, don't worry, the worst that will happen is the 3yo will correct someone's manners, because we can't quite teach him that pointing out bad manners, is bad manners; or that the kids will significantly dip into the bar's stock of cherries.

@schumigirl - I hate that Tchoup Chop is gone! Now it's just that Minion thing, and that isn't very interesting for us. It would have made a perfect dinner place though.

Mythos we thought the food was very good, and it didn't seemed priced way higher than some of the counter service. We had the best server. We went twice in one trip and got the same server twice (by request).

Cowfish-we really liked the food. Milkshake was better than Toothsome. Service was super slow.

Toothsome-Not a huge fan of the shakes. Totchos were really good. Chocolate bread okay. Other entrees were just okay. Service was fine...nothing special, but not too slow. The peanut butter pie (I ordered it a la carte from the May Contain Nuts) was really good.

Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks. Great theme. Edible food, nothing great (we didn't even find the butterbeer to be great, frozen was okay). Long lines for lunch.

Simpsons area. We did like the Taco Truck, but it can be a line and then you are stuck with having to take the food inside. Mobile ordering inside was easy (but then we didn't get the discount).

Finnegans was decent food but horrible service in Feb. We both enjoyed three broomsticks and mythos but loved vivo italian kitchen (citywalk) and islands dining room at royal pacific. I try to get to Islands on “select nights” (weekends) when they have the create your own stir fry!

I've had 1 decent meal and 1 crummy meal at Finnegans. I've been to Mythos probably 30 times and never had a bad meal (or service).

I didn't think the new restaurant at City Walk would be open in July.

Toothsome is all about the atmoshphere. Food is passable. There are better desserts elsewhere. It's a novelty.

I’ve eaten at all four of the in park TS restaurants and have found the simpler my entree is, the happier I usually am with it. After back-to-back disappointments (Pad Thai at Mythos, cioppino at Lombards) I’ve stuck with the salads and sandwiches. The grilled chicken salad at Finnegan’s is HUGE! I was really hungry but ate less than half. I also like the grilled cheese/tomato soup at Mythos and the blackened shrimp Caesar at Lombard’s.

What do you guys prefer? I was initially thinking about Finnegan’s. From what I remember in 2016, we actually liked it better than Mythos. I seem to see many people here posting Mythos is a must do though. Or is there another restaurant we should try? We are going in July and have Toothsome, Lombards, the new restaurant in our plans. :)

I also like Finnegan's more than Mythos. :)

I've only eaten at Mythos once and got the Greek salad. It was almost inedible .

My son got something off the kids menu and it was meh.

The only other place I've tried is voodoo donuts. They were just okay too imo.

Apparently, I'm picky!

We had good meals at Lombards, Finnigans, Mythos, Toothsomes we ate at twice! I wish we had room left for their icecream shakes, they look so good.

We were looking forward to Sals, but this time was disappointed. The whole experience was bad. First the piazza was covered with grad students. It was fun to look at them, but got old. Noise decibels were up there. We decided to eat inside. Food came Luke warm. I had the meatball sub. I like it piping hot. Seemed like it was sitting around awhile. Then there was a drunk 2 booths behind us. Couldn’t hear what was happening but a man with family in booth behind us was having words with drunk guy then went to find staff who removed him. Uttering threats on his way out.
We then decided to go up to lobby after dinner and after perusing shops. Started to downpour with lightning. In lobby saw drunk again being escorted out by security :sad2: Sheesh.

Boats stopped running so we joined the bus queue to city walk. Citywalk bus depot was insane so we decided to walk back to RPH. Picked the wrong night to go to Portofino!

Anjitos was another disappointment. But good drinks!
