DH is the mystery reader in DS7's first grade class. We need a book suggestion. It has to be approved by the teacher. I asked her what has been read before and she told me most of the books were holiday related but I know one mom read Froggy Eats Out and another read a pirate book because she dressed up as a pirate.

DH will not dress up nor do I think DS7 would be comfortable with that.

I have been looking on B&N for ideas and not really finding much.

I was going to have him do If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, or If You Give A Moose A Muffin and have him give out the corresponding treat. Are those books too young for first graders?

DH does not have any ideas.

Please help with some suggestions, thanks!

Hooway for Wodney Wat by Helen Lester.
It is a about a rat with a speech impediment that saves the class from a bully.

Edwurd Fudwupper Fibs Big by Berkley Breathed
About a kid who fibs and the consequences (Aliens from Space) amazing illustrations. The author used to write the cartoon strip "Bloom County" it was popular in the 80s
I read it to a group that laughed out loud.

My DS is in first grade and he loves the Skippy Jon Jones books. They are cute books.

Jack Prelutsky's poetry books work well for mystery reader at that age. The peoms are kid oriented and a bit silly. You just read as many poems as time allows; don't have to worry about finishing the book. My 8th grader took a Prelutsky poem to school today because the teacher said to bring in a poem. He picked "Homework, Oh Homework".

I read "My Big Dog" to my dd's first grade years ago. It was a HUGE hit, but you have to be able to BE the persnickety cat!

I woud go to your local library & ask the childrens librarian for suggestions.
They are usually great with things like that, plus you'll save $!

People usually buy the book and donate to the classroom library.

Oh, in that case my boys all loved,
PETE'S A PIZZA
BARNYARD BOOGIE
DR. SUESS (any of them)
SKIPPY JOHN JONES (must read some parts in a spanish accent)

I have always loved the Steven Kellogg books, especially this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Day-Jimmys-Boa-Ate-Wash/dp/0140546235

Also, The Mysterious Tadpole, Is Your Mama a Llama? and A Rose for Pinkerton. Plus, in every book he illustrates, he always hides pictures of his cat Rose and his kids. They are fun and silly and the illustrations are wonderful.

Two other suggestions are The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Lane Smith.

It's nice that you're involved. My kids are in 5th and 6th now and I have little opportunity to help out these days, but they are quick to point out how i was always there for them and how all their friends know me and say I'm nice because of it. if that won't make you feel good about yourself I don't know what else could.

Thanks, I am up there all the time so I was very excitied when DH signed up instead of me at Back to School Night. He does all the coaching stuff but something like this is new to him.

I think your idea of Moose Muffin/Mouse Cookie and bringing the kids a snack (if your school allows - some schools have strict rules due to allergies) is PERFECT!

I also love Stephen Kellog
Robert McClosky has some beautiful books
Curious George books - the man with the yellow hat....

ok I asked my neighbor for a suggestion and she told me that 90% of people dress up for this. She is trying to "guilt" DH into dressing up. She even came up with an idea he is considering, a baseball hat and a catcher's mask and holding a glove in front of his face until he reads the story.

I had no idea this was so involved. Eeks he is probably going to kill me, oops:lmao:

I vote for dressing him up as Spongebob!

I would love to see that too.:lmao:

You actually know my DH, could you EVER see him doing that!??????!!!!!

I will tell him you suggested that;)
