Myrtle Beach

Depends on how much you are willing to spend. It is a very touristy destination and there is a lot to do but all of it is pricey.

If your kids are entertained just on the beach, you are good, but if they want activities, I find most things overpriced in Myrtle.

Thanks Dawn, we woud probably go for 5 days and go to Ripley's Aquarium, boardwalk area and definitely beach.

I'm not sure how old your kids are, but my kids weren't impressed by Ripley's aquarium when we went when they were 7 and 9. However they loved MagiQuest at Broadway at the Beach, and I enjoyed it too. We spent many hours there over the years.

We are looking into Myrtle Beach for next summer and it's a very popular summer vacation choice among families in our area. We are researching some rental homes in the Surfside Beach and Garden City areas which seem to be a little more affordable and quieter than the main Myrtle Beach area but still close to the Myrtle Beach attractions. In terms of attractions, we are looking into the Children's Museum of South Carolina, Ripley's Aquarium, WonderWorks, Magiquest, and Alligator Adventure. I agree they are all a little on the pricey side so we may limit ourselves to just 2-3 attractions and just enjoy being at the beach.

There's a carnival area with rides and such at Broadway that my kids enjoyed. Lots of put put places all over the area. Broadway has fireworks on certain nights and they usually have a schedule on their website. There's no cost to go there and/or watch them.

We always make it a point to go to Medieval Times. My kids love it. My husband and I had a solo trip and did the Pirates things instead to try it out and thought they'd enjoy that even more. It's pricey, but lots of fun.

The Aquarium and haunted house thing my kids didn't really care for.

there is plenty to do to keep kids entertained. family kingdom amusement park has rides for all ages. plenty of mini golf places. carolina opry is a great show. maybe catch a pelicans game. my DD14 and friends were bored at wonderworks but I think it would have been a hit when they were your kids ages. check the websites of the attractions you are interested in. some places have coupons or package tickets with other attractions, ex. myrtle waves waterpark has a 3 park ticket good for 1 visit to myrtle waves, 1 visit to nascar speedpark and a ticket bundle for the rides at broadway at the beach. i haven't been to the nascar park in a long while but they did have a track just for little kids. im pretty sure its still there. also, pick up the free coupon books you will see all over myrtle beach. they are full of coupons for a few bucks off mini golf, etc.

Awesome, thanks for the info

You can make Myrtle Beach a very economical trip or a VERY pricey one. We have done both. There is a ton to do there. It's a really large area, so deciding where to stay is a first step. We like the North Myrtle Beach area best. We really do not enjoy the grand stand area very much except to do the huge Ferris Wheel that they have there. The time of year you go plays a huge role is prices. Of course Summer is peak rates. We like fall, spring and even Winter.

Most Condo type places have nice pools and lazy river rides that keep children happy. Of course the beach is FREE.

Some of the places we have been:

Family Kingdom Fun Park- Amusement Park with rides. There is also a water park.

Miniature Golf- Tons of places and most pretty much equal as lay out and price.... just pick a theme.

Broadway by the beach- Tons of stuff here:
Aquarium- not the best....but a fun couple of hours
Wonder Works- Fun Science Museum...
MagiQuest- My guys LOVE this one
Minature Golf
LOTS of fun shopping places
Restaurants

Dinner Shows:
Pirate's Adventure- Our favorite
Mid-Evil Times- fun
A few more I can't remember

A ton of music shows:
We have done Alabama Theater and a few others. One has a magic show and there is one that has lots of impersonators. I can't remember the name but it is really good.

There is a children's museum that is fun for preschool age kids

Tanger Outlet shopping- Two locations and lot of good deals

We mostly cook in the condo when we go and getting a full kitchen is quite helpful.

Have fun and feel free to ask question. We are about 4 hours away and take 3-4 trips there a year.

DH and I took a trip this past March so it was off season. I do want to recommend RIO's restaurant for anyone going. Right across the street from Ripleys & the Boardwalk by the Beach area. We had a fabulous Brazilian all you can eat meal. Waiters bring different meats & carve at the table. Little pricey, but well worth the splurge. Salad bar was humungous!

I can also recommend Oceans One Resort. We had a 2br/2bath condo with full kitchen, laundry and housekeeping. Direct full waterfront view.

I'm sure you will find tons of things to do for 5 days.

What about teens? Myrtle Beach has been suggested for next year's big family reunion trip. We have 4 teens graduating next year so they are the focus of the planning. In the past we have done Disney and Colorado together.

We want an area with lots of activities within walking distance and a nice beach for just hanging out. A nice hotel/resort with a great pool.

Thanks!

Thank you everyone. Next year is dh's and mine 10 year anniversary so making it a family trip end of August 2014

I have had my eye on this hotel http://www.caribbeanresort.com/.

I'm up for other suggestions but don't want to pay more than $150.00 a night

Thanks

Has anyone ever stayed in the Windy Hill Dunes condos? There are a lot for rent on vrbo that look nice.
