We are thinking of taking our vacation this year at myrtle beach. We usually take our vacation first week in September . Are the area attractions around there still open after Labor Day? Just me and the hubby going. Any suggestions for hotels on the beach? Appreciate the help

I think you mean Myrtle Beach, SC.

We always stay in a condo on the beach. What is your price range?

We have stayed there three first time North Myrtle Beach right on the beach at the Hilton. The second was Embassy Suites the last time was at Landmark. The Embassy was our favorite. The Landmark was our least favorite but we had our Grandkids and it was great for them right on the beach and they have a great pool area they actually have several pools. The price of this place was very reasonable. We really enjoy Myrtle Beach there is lots to do and lots of fun shopping areas.

We are going to Myrtle Beach for spring break. We already have a place to stay, but would love information on things to do, good places to eat etc. I haven't been in over 30 years and DH and DS15 have never been.

Thank you!

Funbeaches.com/forum is where you want to be for Myrtle Beach info :thumbsup2

This just came up two weeks ago or so.

2nd Avenue Pier Restaurant is a must go place for us to eat. Where we stay, it is a mile or so walk.

Everyone talks about Pawley's Island Tavern as the place to go to eat. Our first year I was hunting for it, it is difficult to find as it is tucked back in the woods invisible to the road with only a sign with an arrow and labeled "PIT". I missed it and we ate at the place that was right on the road. Turns out, that was the best food we had (I happened to eat nothing but shrimp for the entire week.) Island Cafe and Deli it was called. We didn't eat there last summer and we're really disappointed that we didn't.

They consider the restaurants along the marsh walk in Murrell's Inlet as a tourist trap area saying they are REALLY expensive. I don't know what you are use to, but we can't walk out of a restaurant, myself, my wife, and 2 kids for under $70 around me. I don't pay more than $50 even in the "tourist trap" area and most meals cost about $40 for the four of us. Thus, I will recommend Creek Ratz in Murrell's Inlet. All of them in Murrell's Inlet are known to be excellent, Dead Dog Saloon, Drunken Jacks, Creek Ratz.

There is also Prosser's BBQ buffet that always comes up about excellent food. I don't have first hand experience as the place certainly doesn't look like a place you want to enter. I defaulted to listening to my wife when she got sight of the place and we didn't stop.

I did not like the gigantic buffets. Crabby Mike's, Captain George's, and Original Benjamin's are the most talked about of all restaurants and are the most popular. My expectation I guess was quite different than everyone elses because to me, it was just a glorified Golden Corral. The food wasn't bad, but for the price ($28 when we were there) it certainly wasn't worth it to us. I would rather have a smaller buffet with better food (again, the food wasn't bad, just not $28/person good by any stretch.) YMMV on that.

I can't tell you about activities as we don't do any. We go to hang out on the beach from morning til dinner and after dinner, we're back on the beach.

Keep an eye out for the aliens. We saw them this past June. They weren't the same lights that was from the aircraft taking off at the airport that a lot of people report. These were very large very distinct orange lights appearing in the sky out over the ocean in a very distinct and not very closely spaced pattern. We saw them on a Wednesday as we were sitting on the beach waiting for the fireworks at the pier, and saw them the following night while we were walking the beach. They are very strange.

We were there 1st week of March last year- stayed at Ocean's One. Loved the 2bedroom condo on the 11th floor. Direct ocean view. Had full kitchen, and washer dryer. The pool wasn't great, but we weren't interested anyway. We absolutely loved the dinner we had at RIOZ. Brazillian, where they slice the meats right off the skewers at your table. The salad bar was the biggest I've ever seen. Pricey but well worth it. Directly across from Broadway @ the Beach.

The attractions are open after Labor Day. Fall is a big time for golfers in Myrtle Beach. We went the weekend after Labor Day last year and the hotels were pretty full. The weather and the ocean are still warm that time of year. There are a lot of condos on the beach. The chains such as the Wyndham Timeshares are very nice and are kept up. Often the ones that are not chains show a little more age. The furniture and carpets will be more worn.

I love all the restaurants at the Marsh Walk in Murrells Inlet, which is just south of Myrtle Beach.

I've been going to myrtle beach at least once a year for about the past 30 years. Yes, all attractions will be open after labor day. Hotels-I've stayed in a ton of them and my favorites are the kingston plantation (espically, brighton and embassy suites). Dunes Village is also nice. I don't know your budget but North Beach Plantation is very nice. If you want something in that area but cheaper Beach Cove Resort is good. I wouldn't go any further south than Dunes Village. Stay away from the pavilion area (unless, tons of drunk teens and early 20 somethings is your crowd)-this also tends to be the less safe area. North Myrtle is more family friendly (more Ma and Pa type places), Myrtle is more commercial. For entertainment-Broadway at the Beach or Barefoot Landing usually have lots going on, along with lots of shops and restaurants. For eats- Calabash, NC has lots of good Ma and Pa places. Murrels Inlet used to be unknown to many but since they built the Marsh Walk its next to impossible to get into the restaurants in that area. However, just keep driving past the Marsh Walk and you will find just as good places like Lee's Inlet Kitchen. In myrtle, Chestnut Hill is better than its more famous sister, Chesapeake House (IMO) For an awesome burger (no frills place) its hard to beat River City Cafe. Hope that helps- I could go on and on....

I live in Myrtle Beach. Everything is still open after labor day but the times at some places are shortened and the beaches will not have a lifeguard. It is golf season as someone else said so everything is still catering to tourists but not like in the summer. July is the busiest month and the tourists taper off mid-August. Sept. is a beautiful time to come. A lot of the restaurants would be considered tourist traps, not just the ones in Murrells Inlet. However it is still decently priced. The tax is what will add onto your bill. Tax in MB is 9%. Restaurants have an additional tax on top of that, I don't remember what it is. Remember too if you buy clothes here that is taxed too.

We stay at Ocean Lakes and rent a house for the weekend and are actually going Labor Day weekend this year too... Most houses come with a golf cart and everyone rides around on golf carts. There are pools, arcade, a restaurant, volleyball court, a store, playground and just a few steps away from the beach. It is like a little community. I encourage you to check it out!

The farthest south I would go would be the Myrtle beach marriott which is an amazing property. Also try Kingston Plantation area. Wonderful places along that area.

Benny Rappa's fantastic Italian restaurant in North Myrtle Beach. It looks like a hole in the wall but don't let looks deceive you.
