Looking to head to Myrtle Beach next summer maybe...late June or early July.
Would like a place where I have a small kitchen so I can fix some meals...nothing fancy. Are there any condos or resorts that have fun pools and slides, etc.?

Also...we've never been to Myrtle Beach so don't really know what's there. Any neat activities for kids other than the beach...that don't cost a fortune for a family of 6 to do?

TIA!!

We have stayed hear the last 8 years, they have a water park plus a few other pools, childrens club, and sometimes night activities plus it's on the ocean. Some rooms have a full kitchen. We have 4 families that go with us every year and this the kids favorite place. The housekippimg is a hit or miss...they are all from other countries and do not speak english, but when ever we have a problem we have called houskeeping line or front desk and it has always been taken care of.

I'm going in March for a cheerleading competition and we are staying at Mandalay Bay they also have kitchens, I have not stayed here before but I know other who have and said its nice.

That place looks really neat! Question for you...when I looked at rates, it listed Sands Dune Resort, Sands Beach Club,Ocean Forest Plaza, etc. Are these all seperate hotels? If so, which one is the waterpark in? Is there a fee for the waterpark?

They are all part of the same resort they are clusterd together, waterpark is for all of them. We usually stay at the Sand Dunes. No fee for waterpark they give you armbands when you check in for all the people in your room that have to be worn to ente the park. Water park open at 10am-7pm they have lounge chairs around the park (that are really low to the ground and some tables with chairs and umbrellas) theses sometimes go fast so we are usually there a few mintes before 10 and get some chairs.

We have stayed at either a condo or house for family reunions in MB so I'm not much help there. Last year we stayed a little more north of Myrtle Beach at the Marriott Grand Dunes Resort. This year we are staying at the Marriott villas, Ocean Watch at Grand Dunes. They are really beautiful, but pricey. We use Marriott points to cover the price. There are lots of threads with other suggestions for condos or rooms in MB, or hopefully you will get more suggestions on your thread too.

There are tons of things for families to do in Myrtle Beach. There is the boardwalk, rides, waterparks, tons and tons of mini golf courses. There is a new skywheel, like a mini version of the London Eye being built that will be open this summer on the boardwalk. It sounds like a lot of fun. There are lots of family friendly shows, dinner shows (Medieval Times and a new Pirates dinner show being developed to be ready this summer.)
Broadway at the Beach is kind of like a Downtown Disney with shops, restaurants and fun activities. There is a Ripley's Aquarium, a Wonder Works, Magiquest, mini golf, ropes course and zipline, just lots and lots.
There is also shopping at Barefoot Landing, just a smaller boardwalk area that has small boutique stores. They have a Hard Rock Cafe there, a Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Planet Hollywood, Senor Frog's~ (oops I should have wrote this with Broadway at the Beach...these restaurants are at Broadway at the Beach...)
Honestly, Myrtle Beach is not all that inexpensive of a vacation for a family. A lot of the activities can add up quickly, so what we do is have each person pick something they would like to do and we budget for it ahead of time. We eat most of our meals in the house/condo/etc. to offset the cost of what we would like to do and go out for one or two nice meals.

Shopping at Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot landing can be expensive, your best bet for shopping, souvenirs, tshirts, etc. is at the Eagles type beach stores that you will see everywhere once you get into Myrtle Beach.

There are a lot of internet coupons, so I would search Myrtle Beach activities, dining, etc. and see what appeals to your family and click on their sites and usually there are coupons.

Have fun planning, it is a good family vacation, but like anything else, with some planning will make it even more enjoyable!

Tanger outlet malls can have some really good deals! We always go to Broadway at the Beach as well

We have found that most of the hotel/resort combos have rooms or suites with kitchens and have many pools and other water activities to choose from. Many of the condos only have one pool. Our family loves the beach and ocean, so unless it it is very windy, we tend to just hit the beach in front of the resort. The south end of Myrtle Beach tends to be quieter than central Myrtle Beach. North Myrtle Beach is VERY QUIET and is quite a drive to get to most of the action. The road can also get very busy during the summer months.

As others have said, there is plenty of things to do, but add up. We love to go to Brookgreen gardens south of Myrtle Beach. A ticket is good for 7 days.

Is this considered Central MB or South MB? Is this near the main road that I hear people say is a nightmare to go on when you want to go to dinner. I know nothing about MB but we were actually thinking of booking some nights there this summer on our way to AL or home from AL visiting family. Thanks

The Sands Resort is a collection of different hotels, 7 of them.

Ocean Dunes, Ocean Forest Plaza, Ocean Forest Villas, Sand Dunes, Sands Beach, Sands Ocean Club, and Sands Beach Houses.

The hotel ones look like they are collected around 74th Ave N, which is northern Myrtle Beach, north of the main stuff.

Note, North Myrtle is a different city altogether. By "northern Myrtle Beach, I mean the northern end of the city of Myrtle Beach.

www.funbeaches.com, a private website with a forum for Myrtle Beach run by someone who lives in Myrtle Beach. It's a good forum and more personal than the main forum sites for Myrtle Beach or vacation forums in general.

The PP answered the first part of your ?. I actaually think its a perfect location to the restaurants and Broadway at the Beach and outlet malls. the traffic is always busy in MB but not too bad in this area.

The hotel is about 10 min. from Broaway and about 10-15 from the Tanger Outlet Malls. We are usually there the week after Fathers Day but last year we went in JUly traffic was the same both times!

There is also several places to eat at the hotel. We actually it breakfast at resort they have a nice buffet breakfast, pizza place, another restaurant that serves hamburgers etc. and then a finer dining option as well. Near the waterpark is another restaurant that also serves hamburgers, staeks ribs, seafood etc. but when you come of the hotel go up a block there will be 100's of restaurants to choose from as well as a food lion, CVs all within 3-5min of each other! We actually stay at the resort most of the time, we are at the pools all day, then eat around 5, eaither head to Broadway or Outlet Malls then back to resort. This is our truly relaxing vacation!

We have stayed at the Sands Beach club through an RCI timeshare exchanged and we hated it. : (

Not kid friendly. Bar in the lobby. Home of the only live music, ocean front bar, open to the public on the beach. The sign says so ;).

We were ocean view on the side, with the bar below us. My kids came home singing Mustang Sally :rotfl:It's all they heard til 11 o'clock every single night.

The kitchen...well my dh got a glass out, put water in, took a drink, then noticed a lipstick imprint on it. :confused:It was disgusting. Pulled out the couch for kids to sleep on and popcorn/crumbs went everywhere.

Housekeeping? They refused to change out our towels. I'm sorry but when at the beach and sand in every nook and cranny you got, you need clean towels every day. I just kept taking more pool towels.

The kids activities were ok.

I would've changed hotels, but we checked in on Saturday. RCI agreed to move us Monday and by then I had figured out how to make things tolerable.

The whole time my dh taunted me. "How many hours do you spend on Disboards researching our Disney vacation? How many hours did you spend looking up this place?" Ummm...That would be zero. OOOOPS!!!

We have stayed at Sea Mist, which again is a few blocks of hotels acting as one. It has it's own water park and like MANY pools. We loved it!
