Your votes? Any opinions welcome. We are dh, me,dd13, ds10. Camping in a 5th wheel, coming from CT.

Never been to MB but we did enjoy WB. Especially the Busch Gardens and their water park.

Williamsburg offers some great Bounce deals that includes Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg and Water Country USA. If you want a day at the beach, you're less than 2 hours to VA beach. Assuming you're coming during the summer, it will be warm and humid, but if you do the Colonial area in the morning, hit Water Country in the afternoon to "cool off" it will make the evening at Busch Gardens more comfortable, especially since you are camping. If you do decide Williamsburg, make sure to stop at the Cheese Shop in the historical area. Go to the back of the shop, and look for a basket of "bread ends". They make great french toast, toasted cheese bread or small sandwiches. We grab a few bags throughout our visits and take a few home with us. Of course we always enjoy a sandwich and a few goodies while we are there also. (We've done Myrtle several times also and find it more crowded and can be more expensive, so I'd go for VA and it's about 6 hours closer to CT.) Have fun planning!

I admit I voted for Williamsburg. We went there between Christmas and New Years a few years ago on vacation and I'm always in favor of sneaking in a little American history while having fun. :teacher:

I know you can do the same at Myrtle if you commute up to Charleston but it's not as convenient.

We did DC, Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Kitty Hawk NC on that trip. (including Mt Vernon). Good trip. :dance3:

I personally wouldn't go to Myrtle Beach in the summer because the traffic is horrific! We go to MB during our kids spring break and it is great, not much traffic and usually the weather is nice enough to go to the pool or play on the beach. We liked the Ocean Lakes campground but if we were to go during the summer I would stay at the KOA since it is located closer to more shopping/eating and you wouldn't need to drive as much. Only downside to KOA is that it doesn't have their own beach like Ocean Lakes does.

We also love Virginia Beach as we go every year but I wouldn't recommend hitting both Williamsburg and VB at the same time unless you plan on changing campgrounds. The traffic between the two areas can be bad during the summer months and therefore would be a much longer drive than the normal 2 hours. We always stay at the VA Beach Holiday trav-l-park and love it.

You could go to Williamsburg for 3 days then go onto Virginia Beach for 3 more then head home that would be my suggestion. Also traffic on 95 on Sundays in VA is horrible so you might want to factor that into your planning.

We live 3.5 hours from MB and are there quite a lot. In fact we just dropped in for a night last weekend. I wouldn't recommend camping at MB during the summer months. Most campgrounds have year round renters and space is very hard to come by. We usually stay in a hotel when we visit MB for that reason. We have stayed in Ocean Lakes several times in the past... bring a golf cart. While it has it's own beach access, you don't have the ocean front view that you get in a ocean front resort. Crowds are also very heavy in the summer. I would recommend MB in the early spring and fall though... it is quite beautiful. NC beaches are beautiful if you ever want to consider those. We live about the same distance to the NC beaches and I'm partial to those. the Outer Banks are great and of course we love Southport NC/Oak Island.. it's more family oriented and not so crowded.... it's our choice for summer beach visits. I believe they have a few campgrounds, but I would recommend renting a beach house. I would agree though for camping in the summer.... Williamsburg would get my vote.
