Hey I want too buy 250 points at AKV, my wife is on the fence and I need some ideas so I can talk her into it. We have 3 kids 6,11, 13 a lot of times I'll just take the kids myself , she likes her time alone{she does like too go} as I travel a lot. We always stay on site, 2 visits this year and thinking about going around Xmas. I have most of the pros and cons. She is worried about the cost but if we make some small changes I can easily afford it. Any suggestions ??

Why not consider lowering your cost by buying resale? Although OKW expires (for the most part) in 2042, you can save a bunch of money this way. Might be a good way to convince your DW.

I was a fence sitter for many years as my wife tried to get me to buy. I was concerned about the money too but through a HELOC is really is not bad. The thing that got me over the fence was staying in a DVC room. Been to WDW before but always in a hotel like WL. Stayed at OKW one time a saw the size, the quiet locations, the service and was sold. We have since been to SSR this year and bought in both AKL and VWL. I would encourage you to rent some DVC points for your trip this Christmas if you can get availability so she can see the space you and your children have. I think that would really help...

Hi Scott! Show her the $ you'll save on accomodations. DVC advertises that you save 70% off Deluxe accomodations by being a DVC member, which I find pretty close to the value I get from my membership.

For example: OKW costs me, in annual dues and the cost of the contract combined (over x years that are the duration of the contract), about $75 a night to stay there (in low seasons). The same room for cash goes for a heck of a lot more than that. Most Deluxe accomodations in low seasons are >$200/night before Florida taxes, more towards $300 or more. Even Moderate resorts are around $185/night before Florida taxes.

If you go regularly, then DVC is definitely the way to go!

Whew...be thankful I am not your wife...I would have jumped all over that:rotfl2:

Our kids are 8, 10, 12 , and 14. Our number one reason of loving DVC is it is a great family vacation every time! The kids are never "bored" and there is always something for everyone to do. Even the teenagers smile and have fun at Disney!! (It is magic!:rotfl: ) We have gone twice already this year and we are leaving for another trip in 10 days.....and we are still excited!! Do look at resale (we used the timeshare store) . Bought our first contract through them and our 2nd was AKL through Disney themselves. You also get savings on annual passes, food (through dining experince card) and shoping!! This last trip we took my parents who have not been there since the 70"s and they are both now in their 70's. That too was an awsome experince to share with those who thought we were crazy until they felt the "magic " first hand. Now they are coming with us next year and that is all my Dad talks about. Sorry so long! :thumbsup2 Good luck with your decision!!! :thumbsup2

I would listen to WaltEeyoreWorld- I am his wife and it took me 8 years to get him to buy, now he can't seem to stop! We are already talking that if our VWL contract gets ROFR'd what we are going to do- If it doesn't pass we are talking a 230 pts resale at OKW cause now he likes the concept of staying longer!! :)

It didn't take long to convince my DH. We purchased 160 points at ssr last Feb. We stayed in a 1 bedroom for 11 nights. When we got a little post card last month with incentives DH said he wants to always stay in a 1 or 2 bedrrom do a add on. I was like ok. We bought never taking the tour but we go every year so it made sense. We wished we would have bought in 2004 when we stayed at WL but we had only been married a year and still wanted to buy that new house.

For us, it was a matter of seeing what a room was costing us at Disney versus buying.

We went to Disneyland 3 years in a row and stayed at the Grand Californian. After the second trip we looked into DVC, but thought NO WAY - too expensive.

Then we went on trip 3. We realized the room that trip was running us a couple of thousand dollars (ouch) and when we added up the room costs from the previous two years, well we could have used about $5,000 to buy points instead of those rooms.

So we bought DVC on that 3rd trip while in California on vacation at Disneyland (sight unseen for SSR). The next year, we LOVED the experience.

We also have loved "having to schedule a vacation" (it's SUCH a chore - lol) and my wife and I have worked trips in every year alone for a few nights even!

So do the math, stay in the place, and let the magic happen.

i would go to youtube search animal kingdom villas download a video and go wow look how close the animals are to the villas:thumbsup2

I was on the fence for about a year too. I wish I had bought earlier due to the points going up quit a bit from last year. I am very glad I bought and just completed our first trip to beach club. I bought 350 points at beach club. It was the best vacation I have ever had. Your vacation does not have to be all park time, you can enjoy quiet at the pools. But, it also is a emotional decision in addition to the financial benefits. Once you have paid off your membership you will feel better. You can always sell it to disney or other. Not many people have regreted there decision to buy. My suggestion buy where you want to stay since as years go on as more buy in you may not be able to get your resort for holidays. This decision to buy is a gift to your family for vacations. It makes it affordable to come to disney. I used a disney vacation club representative named Mike Johnson , he is very nice and dedicated. You may want to give him a call. His number is 1-800-500 - 3991.

If and when your DW gets down on the right side of the fence:cool1: and you buy from Disney direct and still want 250 pts, consider spliting the contract up into 3 contracts. Then you can leave each of your 3 children a piece of the magic. 3 contracts at 83 pts = 249 pts (1 pt short) Disney will do this. You can't split a single contract up later. Alos if you need to sell some you could then just sell 1 (83) pt and keep the other 2

good luck:cool1: :thumbsup2

Reduce the amount you want to buy and start smaller. It may look more 'doable' to her if you start on a smaller scale. You can always add on later if it works out for you.

You could begin with the minimum amount of points or buy an even smaller resale. Then if your wife sees that the purchase is enhancing your lives and possibly saving you money on vacations, she might be more interested.

Many on these boards have multiple contracts.
