My Verizon Contract Expires Today

Cellular service quality is very much affected by the area you live in . Some might have issues, some may not. This happens for all carriers. If you want your Iphone and you know AT&T has decent service in your are, go for it. Contacting AT&T would be your first step.
yes, but some carriers have much bigger problems than others. I dropped calls constantly in certian areas with ATT. There were about a dozen dead zones in different areas around town where I could count on ALWAYS dropping a call. I have only found one spot where my new service will drop a call. If you look at national averages ATT has the largest number of "problem areas".

I've had AT&T for 8 years (except when they sold to cingulair) and have been very happy with them. I've lived in the bay area of Ca., the coast of Oregon, and now in Maryland. I've traveled all over the United States in that time as well.
Verizon has better service if you are in rural areas, but in all the developed areas I've been in I haven't had coverage issues. If you are often in rural/wilderness areas you may want to stick with Verizon. If you are rarely in those types of places you should be fine with AT&T. I will say that I can still send text messages with only one bar of service, and I have been very few places, even in the middle of no where, where I don't at least have that.
I've owned an Iphone since they first came out, and have the Iphone 4 now. I don't have any issues with it! I love that thing!!! I bought an otterbox for it, and my reception is just fine.
I have also had only positive experiences with AT&T's customer service.

I must live in AT&T's backyard, because we have had them for at least 10 years, with no issues. I constantly read about people complaining about AT&T, and I really don't get it! I guess we are just lucky that we live in an area with great reception. We also have always had great customer service with them. I have an iPhone, and I love it. It really is a great phone, and it does so much.

I hope you enjoy your new phone! The apple store should be able to take care of everything for you. They are extremely friendly and helpful (and their customer service is fabulous if you ever had a problem!)

It does depend on where you live and where you travel to. You'd think in this large metropolis that both carriers would be equal. But, Verizon is far superior here. Of all the people I've personally polled, and they were many when I was choosing carriers, and my own experience having had both, this area is Verizon country.

AT&T is second. T-Mobile is a distant third. Is Sprint even in business anymore? I don't even see commercials for them anymore. :confused3 They really did themselves in with the "All digital" network a while back. When people couldn't get a digital signal, bouncing off the buildings, their all digital signal wouldn't convert to analog to keep the calls going. Way to many dropped calls. :headache:

OP, if you want to switch carriers and port your number, it may be too late already. It takes a couple days to port a number. Doesn't the number have to be active in order to port it? :scratchin

You haven't seen all of the Sprint 4G commercials making fun of AT&T?

No. :confused3 Maybe I just tune them out because they have such a crappy reception here. I'll have to be on the look out for one. Interesting, from your description, they don't go after Verizon. :rolleyes1

If you are talking about the current wireless and wifi issue a simple case fixes that issue. If you happen to get a phone that has that issue you do get a free shell case you can order within 30 days of ordering.

I agree though overall - discuss with folks in your area about their reception, etc.

I don't have an i-Phone, however I just showed this post to 3 of my co-workers with 4G phones....after they stopped laughing, they said that no, the case does no good.
Which explains the class action suit filed last week.

I have to say in same camp ... had three Iphones over that same stretch and no issues, and very good customer service. Wouldn't trade ...
