Ok so we have been having issues with our 10 year old van. There is something going on with the electrical system and we haven't pin pointed it, but all that is not important... it wont start and we needed to tow it into our guy.

So, Today we got it towed and the guy drove off. A few moments later we get a phone call from our neighbor... Our Van fell off the hitch and the front end slammed to the ground. And they said from the looks of it the driver didnt realize right away that it happened and our van was in th emiddle of our street.

Of course we ran outside and my husband had words with the guy.. he was like Oh oh everything is fine no worries, and we are like, um... better not be anything wrong with it. We just had the front end redone, so if ANYTHING is messed up, it's because of this guy. As of now we have no idea if any damage was done :-(

Sooooooooooooo helpful DISers.... what do I need to do now. For sure have the front end looked at (once we get it running that is lol) Do we have recourse or are there lame laws to protect lame tow truck guys?

Thank goodness for our neighbor who saw the whole thing! Oh and he went to their house first and had their van hooked up before he went to their door to confirm that was the van. They have a black Oddessy and he was to pick up a Red Caravan. :scared1:

Oh and should I mention we start our summer road trip in 9 days :scared1:

You did get the tow company's insurance info, right? You need to get in touch with them first. Get your car into the shop so they can go over it with a fine tooth comb. Say nothing to the tow company's insurance people about problems with the front end in the past. If they refuse to work with you call your own insurance. They will sue them for damages if they have to.

Sorry this happened. What a mess! Hope you have some transportation for your upcoming trip.

i would make a police report. Let it be on record of the incident.

i'm sure there are some laws that pertain to towing and responsibility.

sending you mummy dust and a
you don't need this type of aggravation.

since your road trip is coming up, contact the towing company and have them rent a van for you.
body work and a paint job takes time..

Report it to the police, and make sure you call your insurance company first thing in the morning to open a file, then they can have it checked out & they will handle dealing with the tow company. I would also call the tow company owner in the morning to discuss it. Hopefully there is nothing wrong, but better safe than sorry

You have gotten good advice and the bonus is you have witnesses. :)
Get it all on record. Have the van thoroughly inspected for damages (not by any company associated with the towing company).

Good luck with it all. It sounds like a headache.

Wow we never even thought about calling the police... Really? We did get the guys info though.

if you make a claim with your insurance company, i'm sure they would want any document, such as a police incident report for what they have to do then.
