Sounds like you had it rougher than I did last September. I had the "no scalpel" variety. One local anesthetic, one small vertical slit, two quick snips, and that was it. No stitches, no cauterization. Minimal swelling. You have to look real hard to find the site of the incision. I was mobile in 24 hours and was able to sit in a camping chair and my son's soccer game the next day. The doc only does them on Friday evenings (30 minutes per patient) so you can be 100% come Monday morning. He said he couldn't believe that so many doctors were still using the older more invasive techniques.
One funny note... The office he uses is a shared facility and in the room I was in there was a small mounted display of "historical" surgical tools. Very crude and wicked looking. I quipped that he really ought to remove that display lest it scare anyone off. I also resisted the urge to hold myself and groan for effect as the next guy was entering the office as we were departing!!!
