I just now placed an order on Amazon.com for a shiny new Nikon D300 and a 50mm 1.4 lens to go with it. The auction house where I work one day a week set the date for my coins to be auctioned so I went ahead and took the plunge and placed the order. After weeks of watching and checking prices now I only have to wait for it arrive ... I'm so excited :cool1: :cheer2:

Niceee!! You'll love the D300, and you'll be buyin new lenses in no time flat! :cool1:

I have had my D300 since mid December. I am VERY happy with it, although have not yet tapped into all its mysteries. It is so much more powerful than my D50. I'm sure you will enjoy yours too. Hope it is delivered quickly!!

SWEEEEET!

I LOVE my D300. I've had mine since Sept, unfortunatly I haven't had a lot of time recently to use it, though as long as my plan works, I should be able to get some photo time in tomorrow at my DD's playgroup. I'm the "official" photographer for the group that meets once a month and since we had a huge snow storm on the day of last months playgroup, they're doing the x-mas party tomorrow. Should be fun. I'm all packed up and ready to go. Now, I just have to get my butt out of bed by 1:30am so I can get my full day of work it and make it to the playgroup for 10am or thereabouts.

I don't have the 50mm f/1.4, but from images I've seen and people I've talked to that do have it, it is a stellar lens. Paired with the D300 you should get some real nice images.

I don't know which of us took the bigger plunge. :confused3 I opted for the D90 which arrived yesterday. After reading, studying and practicing for the last 5 months I am on cloud 9. I just can not believe how good the photos are at high ISO and at slow shutter speeds. I did opt for the 18-105, 70-300 and the Sig 30 f/1.4 to go along with it. Unfortunately I am at work for the next 4 days so I will have to wait for Tuesday to do some real shooting. I assure you that you are just going to love the D300. And by the way, just checked Amazon today and the D90 just went up $50.

The reason I ordered it was I checked Amazon's price today also and it was $30 cheaper than it has been for the past week after making a $10 increase from where it was priced since I had been watching in early November. I already have the 18-55 kit lens that came with my D40 and the 55-200VR. I am looking forward to getting the 50 1.4 and having a prime lens to shoot with.

I love my D300. I highly recommend you sign up for Nikonians.org and take their one day D300 course if it comes to your town or nearby. It is a great review and hands on of the all the camera can do. The more you can feel comfortable with the inner mysteries of that camera, the more amazing it can be. Did you get the new 50 1.4 of the older version? Both are great but the new one is supposed to be amazing!

Thanks so much for the tip on Nikonians.org. I checked the site and both sites nearest me, Philadelphia and Washington, DC, have three workshops scheduled but all are sold out. I will keep an eye on the site though in case they add dates. Even the Orlando ones are sold out so I couldnt use that as an excuse to schedule a trip to the World.

I got the older version of the 50 1.4. All the stores I checked with still say the newer version is on back order. I figured I would go with the older version for now and if I like it as much as I think I will when the newer ones are available I can trade in or sell and upgrade since the primes hold value pretty well.

Congrats fellow Nikon owner!!! I just received my D80 at Christmas and I love it. I'm sure you will love yours as well!! Have fun. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The big brown truck just left the driveway and the battery is in the charger!!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 The 50mm 1.4 arrived yesterday and today the D300 came. Let the learning begin :coffee: LOL ... I am excited and at the same time overwhelmed. Its way more camera than the D40 but I think I am up for the challenge ... now if the weather would warm up a little that I could stand to be out for more than just a short while.

Congrats! Can't wait to see your 1st shots! I'm sure you'll be out there shooting as soon as the battery is charged:thumbsup2

Great!!!!!! Once that batt, is charged then it is off to the races. Looking forward to seeing some posts on th Nikon picture of the day thread!!!
