My turn..searching for a song

You are all so good at this, and I'm not having any luck figuring out what this song is that I heard on Delilah last night. The chorus is something like "I wouldn't have to be this way...or I wouldn't have to be like this" the story of the song was a woman who's love "left suddenly"(died) and then at the end it she said she had a date with the preacher's son, and she would see how it went. It sounded country to me, but a pretty song, sung by a woman. Sorry-thats all I remember..anyone have any ideas? Thanks for trying.

That's it, I just went and checked the lyrics. That was the song I was talking about just goofed up the title a bit. Very nice song!
