Cheer up. It will be great. My family always drives to Florida from Arkansas. I also have a 5 year old, and on our trip in July we will be bringing a 10, 12, and 19 year old. We will be in a impala and not a van. But hey....We're going to disney world. Nothing could make me down about that. We always plan one extra day of just hanging out before we go to the parks so that the drivers won't miss out on the first day of fun because they are so tired from driving. We also have the tv/vcr, a dvd player, cards, music, and games for the actual drive. This seems to work great. I try to get my 5 year old to watch the video of our last trip on the way down so that she can be excited (AND QUIET). We also try and sing stupid songs together as a family ( I know that it's pretty corny), but it works. For example the star -trek song by Dr. Demento. We do the same thing on the way back, except we watch the video of the trip we just had. We do this by hooking the vcr up to the tv/vcr. Another thing that works great is playing bingo or poker-keeno for candy. I fill up a bag of candy, and the winner of each game gets to choose a candy prize. You can get those games at toys r us. Another thing you can do is print your own post cards from the computer, and address them on the way. Then when you get to florida, drop them in the mail. That's one worry out of the way. There is a disney and friends cd that allows you to print postcards.
The most important thing is to make a rule that there will be no arguing of any kind by anyone while in the car.
Either way, have a good attitude, a little faith, and a lot of fun.
It will be a great experience.
