Actually, it's probably not done but I need to get off this darn computer and do something with my life. Maybe if I say I'm done planning, I'll stop coming up with just one more thing I need to research!:rotfl:

I've been looking foward to this vacation for two years. My DH was jobless for 20 long months. The entire time, I saved recycling, knitted scarves to sell and did anything else I could think of to add to my "fun fund." When he finally found a great job in January, I started adding more to my "fun fund" and will have $4000 by the time we leave in July. Any leftover money will go into a new fund for next year's trip up to the Northwest.

So, here are my plans for our much-needed, hard-earned July trip for me, DH, DS15 and DS12:

Sunday, July 17 - Drive down south (we live in the Bay Area)
Hotel: Vagabond Inn in Glendale (the price was right and it's a good, equal distance to Universal and L.A. where we have show tickets)
Monday, July 18 - Universal Studios (getting discounted 2-day tickets through my school employee's union)
Tuesday, July 19 - Universal Studios (if there's anything we still want to do and/or repeat, CityWalk). Evening: Seeing Les Miserables at the Ahmanson Theater in Los Angeles
Wednesday, July 20 - Sleep-in, check-out, drive to Anaheim.
Staying at the Park Vue Inn (2 queens and a bunkbed).
Go to Downtown Disney, have dinner with a good friend and her husband who is recovering from cancer surgery.
Thursday, July 21 - Saturday, July 23 - Disneyland! (getting discounted 3-day park hoppers through my union).
Sunday, July 24 - Drive home :sad1:

I am so looking forward to this trip. Last year, we spent a free week in Lake Tahoe at my parents' cabin. It was fun, but we had to be very careful about money because DH was unemployed so we sat around the cabin a lot. I feel like I need to go somewhere and really relax, especially after the year I've had at work in my classroom (that's another story!). Thanks for indulging me! Now that I've written down our plans, I can stop with my incessant searching, right?:lmao:

Let the Magic begin!!! Sounds like a wonderful family time ahead for you.

Have a wonderful time! I love the Bay Area. I used to live on the edge of the "tenderloin" when I went to SFSU for a few years, lol. I miss the Chinese food!
Sounds like a great tip you have planned!

I think it is so awesome that you were able to save so much money while your DH was jobless and I hope that you have a fantastic vacation! I think planning is half the fun but it can be really time consuming, right? Now that you are done planning you can just relax and start the countdown to your trip. Yay!
