My town moved Trick-or-Treat to the 28th

:sad2: Whenever it falls on a Wednesday, Friday, Saturday or a Sunday they move it. Friday because of high school football. Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday because, well, I can't say but you know, Him. ;)

I know, what's the big deal? The kids still get to Trick-or-Treat but it just seems kind of odd to me. It doesn't make Halloween go away by moving it to a different day.

I've never lived anywhere either as a kid or adult that moved Halloween.

I know some places around here have, but IMO it's really stupid to move it when it's on a Friday / Saturday....and in your case, why would they move it when its on a Sunday --- but not on a Monday or Tuesday?!!!

I have never heard of it being moved on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Sometimes if it is a Monday or Tuesday it gets moved up a day or two so it falls on a weekend. High School football is a stupid reason to move it IMO. I didn't even care about it when I was in H.S. I can't believe people care about it after they are out.

I have no idea what you mean by "Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday because, well, I can't say but you know, Him".

who is Him?

our town moved it one year.........it caused such an outcry that they never moved it again :rotfl:
I never heard of doing halloween on any other day but halloween.

I know they moved it to saturday over in foxboro because of the sunday patriots game

Does your town "somewhere between here and there" send out an email or do they have a bulletin board that announces the move??? :confused3

Is Him God?

BTW, I wouldn't mind if they took it away completely. I'm the Grinch of Halloween!! ;)

Sorry for being vague. I was trying not to bring religion into the discussion directly.

Halloween has, to some, evil origins so our town leaders think one shouldn't celebrate those holidays on church days which in my town are Wed., Sat., and Sun.. So, yes, Him = God.

I know, strange.

They announce it in our weekly paper and they pass out flyers at school to the kids.

So when they move it, what happens when the kids go out on the 31st anyway?

Because I suspect that's what would happen here. We'd get some trick or treaters on the 28th and then some more on the 31st ... or maybe even the same ones.

To me it would just be an additional pain in the butt.

Oklahoma City has moved it to Saturday: https://www.okc.gov/news/2010_08/Trick_or_Treat.html

In addition, many towns and cities in Oklahoma move the trick or treat date if Halloween falls on a Sunday. It seems to be pretty much the standard thing to do here.

One reason is that many communities' Chambers of Commerce around here offer 'safe' trick or treating by setting aside an hour or two on the designated trick or treat night where kids can trick or treat at local businesses, most of which are closed on Sunday.

RitaE: I can see how that could be a problem. I live in a smaller community that routinely moves the date if it falls on Sunday. I can't recall ever having that problem. Generally speaking though, it's common practice here to not trick or treat any houses that don't have porch lights on. All I can say is it seems to work fine for us.

"Him" is God. I think the OP was trying not to bring religion into the thread, but some churches do have objections to Halloween, so I guess a town that would move it for high school football would also move it for church services.

I think it's crazy, myself. It seems Friday and Saturday nights would be the BEST nights for trick-or-treating, as the kids don't have school the next day. Kids young enough to trick-or-treat should be too young to care about football! :rotfl: Honestly, it doesn't take all that long. You could go trick-or-treating and still make the football game! LOL!

Our church has no issue with Halloween (it IS "All Hallows Eve" after all...) and will have our annual Fall Festival on Sunday night in lieu of services. Some churches don't like doing their Festivals on Sundays and are going to have them on Saturday instead this year, but I've never heard of a town dictating when kids should trick-or-treat. Is it THAT big a deal? :confused3

If you'd rather go to church or a football game or whatever, instead of trick-or-treating, then...do that. It's not some law that you HAVE to be home handing out candy! :lmao:

Crazy! So people with no kids and don't read the "weekly paper" are still going to celebrate? :woohoo:

In my town in NJ, they never move trick or treating. It's always on Halloween. In NH, my brother's town moves it all the time. This year it's moved to Saturday between the hours of 5-7:30. Yes, they even tell you when you can go out. My town in NH is doing a trunk or treat one day and trick or treat on another, neither actually on Halloween.

Our town does it too and drives me insane. The move it if it's on a Friday or Saturday due to football and on a Sunday. I HATE IT!! I usually rely on my friends who have kids in school to tell me what day the town decides ToT is happening since I don't know where they post it.

My opinion? If you don't want to go ToT on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday for certain reasons then don't go.

Growing up in NJ we never moved ToT to another day, but apparently they have done it here in OH for a long time.

I think it's ridiculous as well but our town does it too. They seem to decide to have it whenever they want. This year it is Saturday.:confused3 Luckily we always go to my IL's neighborhood where they always have it on the right day. They do the same thing to the 4th of July which is beyond crazy. It's the freakin' 4th of July people!!!!! Not the 3rd. Not the 5th.:lmao:

From the Bible Belt South here...we do move Halloween if it's on a Sunday. When that happens, trick or treating is on Saturday. It always seemed very silly to me, but the whole "Halloween is Evil" thought process is silly to me, too. I'm just thrilled my girls are well beyond the trick or treating years, we don't live in neighborhood, and Halloween is just another day of the year.

When we lived in Iowa, our metro areas did trick or treating on the 30th. It was supposed to help cut down on vandalism.

Ours is the 28th too, but it always the Thursday before Halloween here. Even if Halloween falls on a Thursday, they have it the Thursday before.

My DS gets his braces on the 28th, I'm thinking trick-or-treat won't be much fun for him this year.

So when Halloween is moved, what happens on the 31st? Do people who didn't get the memo trick or treat anyway?

As a kid I could totally see making multiple Halloweens work in my favor! ;)

I read posts last year about towns that move ToT to a different night from the 31st and found it very odd:confused3 My town/county/state has never done such a thing as far as I know.

BUT....this year we have a Patriots game at 4:15 which is seriously interfering with ToT. I warned DD when the schedule came out that I would not be transporting her anywhere during the game. We are currently bugging anyone in a good neighborhood to have a "joint football/halloween for the tween set party".

This would be the only good reason for changing the date. And, it is a Sunday, a school night, maybe Saturday would be better;)

Might I ask why it must be on a Thursday??

And moving it, in theory, to Oct 24th might one of the stupist things I've ever heard?

When does this happen? I've lived in JoeJah for 24 years and I don't remember ever hearing about it "moving"? :confused3
