My thoughts on the School Bread change

I know that there was a thread a few weeks ago, but I can't find it now, and of course the search function isn't working.

Anyway, I got one a little over a week ago, and we were SO disappointed by the changes. It is easily 1/2 to maybe even 1/3 the size it used to be. (It used to completely fill the takeout container. I could have fit two or three of them in the container this time.) It was dried out and had only about a tablespoon of custard inside it. The caramel topping did nothing for me, and I am a caramel lover. The price was a little cheaper than it had been in the past, but with it being so much smaller, I think it is actually more expensive now. My mom and I used to be able to split one, and we would now have to buy two of them.

I said something to the guy at the counter as well as the cashier, and the cashier was really snippy with me. I told her nicely that I missed the way they used to be, and she snapped at me "Well don't tell me. I can't do anything about it. You need to write Disney." I guess she's been hearing a lot of complaints and is getting tired of it, but I did think that her attitude was a bit much.

Please Disney, bring back the original School Bread. I don't even care if you go up on the price a little bit!

I just enjoyed the schoolbread for the first time in August after reading about how great it was from dissers. I'm sorry to hear the change is'nt good. Why mess with a good thing. Linda :)

When did it change?? We had ours for the first time when I was there last September, and looooved it!

Why do they change things that are good and sucessful and an obvious money earner?

I'm so sad to hear about the change. It was on my list to get when we went in Feb 2008 but we didn't make that trip ... and still on my list for Feb 2009. Just a little disappointing. Since I have never had the original, I won't be comparing but ... almost as upsetting as the deletion of the filet everywhere and I don't even do DDP!

I guess the "size" change saves them money? The other changes ... who knows!

I was there in mid September, and when I ordered school bread, the guy behind the counter warned me that it had been changed. According to him, none of those that work there like it, and they'd been trying to get the pastry chef to change it back, with no luck. I tried it anyway, and while it was okay, it wasn't great.

Honey, I shrunk the School Bread! Or perhaps the head-shrinkers from the Jungle Cruise had a hand in this.

Count me in as one more VERY disappointed former school bread fan. I first tried it in Dec 2007 and fell in love. I was so looking forward to having it again this trip. First, I noticed the price was lower (1.99 - used to be about 3.49 I think?). That's odd; Disney never lowers prices. Then I couldn't find it in the case. Then I saw some little things that looked like a shrunken version of my former love. That's okay - better for my waistline, right?

It was small, dry, and there was so little filling. The icing was eh - not a deal-breaker but wouldn't have ruined the original. Needless to say perhaps, I didn't go back for seconds (or thirds or fourths) on our trip. My waistline thanks the pastry "chef" but my taste buds curse him.

First, they get rid of Tapestry of Nations. Now, they ruin School Bread. I need to stop falling in love with stuff at Epcot!!

All I can say is they better fix this before I get there or they are gonna hear a big fit from me!!!! :scared1:
I LOVED school bread and it was an absolute must have on every trip. Disney if you're reading this, BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL SCHOOLBREAD!!!!!!!!!!

Well, the good news is that there are other good things there. I love the almond pretzels and rice cream, but dang! Why did they have to mess with the one item that has so many devoted fans?

I hate when they change something that is so popular. I still remember and miss the BEAVERTAILS from Canada. Oh, they were so good, fried dough, strawberries and cream. I miss them:sad1: I have some new favorites from Epcot, but I did love to sit and eat those Beavertails.

Norway at Epcot.

It is...kinda...doughnutty, but that does NOT do it justice. It is a fluffy bakery item with a cream filling, a glaze, and coconut sprinkled on top.

The type of filling and the flavor of the glaze (and the size) seem to be the changes.

Sounds like a Krispy Kreme Kreme Puff with coconut on top. Bet it ain't as good though! :rotfl2:

I tried the school bread for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I am a huge fan of custard filled donuts and was greatly disappointed with it. It was dry, didn't have a good taste, it was like cheap bakery, and yes - just about a teaspoon of custard. No thanks. I was so sorry I wasted my money and calories on that instead of my Napoleon in France.
