My thoughts on Frozen

MacMamma is it possible that those seated before you had bought one of the "experience" packages? I think part of the benefit to buying the pre or dinner show experience is that they get to enter first?

Thats what I was thinking but there's no pre show package only a lunch package and someone on here said all lunch packages are for priority seating for the 4 o'clock show. But maybe that isn't correct. That would make more sense to me.

I know everyone on this board was all about Aladdin, but I MUCH prefer the Frozen show to Aladdin. I saw Aladdin once and that was plenty. I didn't find it funny, just cringe-worthy cheesiness. I loved Frozen. I expected to feel the same way about Frozen as I did about Aladdin, but I thought it was so much better. To each their own. I've seen Frozen a few times now and will see it again.

I am generally a massive frozen fan, but given the reviews I've seen and the vast amount of time the show takes, I'm planning on bypassing the experience. I'd much rather ride the rides and take in the park. I've only been to Disneyland once before this upcoming trip and only spent a half day at dca. Thanks for your review. :)

I am also a big musical theater fan and a huge Idina Menzel fan (loved her in Wicked so so much) so I almost wonder if it would be a let down to hear other people sing her songs.

For all I know the show is worth all the hype it gets, The kids I was with weren't into seeing it however. They are frozen'ed out or they felt like its too princesses-y/girlie ( and that is coming from my son who has seen Wicked twice, Annie, Phantom, Lion King, and Les Miserables and been the lead in his school productions of Mary Poppins and School House Rock Live) which makes me think that it simply lacks the appeal that Aladdin had.

Count me among those that really enjoyed Frozen at the Hyperion. I've seen it three or four times now, and have enjoyed each one. I do think it's a lot of time to invest in a show if your visit at California Adventure will be a short one, but if you have the time, I'd encourage you to go.

I am a big Idina fan as well, and I was worried about this. The first Elsa that I saw was absolutely incredible. She wasn't trying to be Idina, she didn't sound like Idina, but she made it her own in the best way. She had a phenomenal voice and her acting was on point. Of course it's dependent on the specific actors you get and your preferences.

It definitely takes up a lot of time between the waiting and the time of the show, so I also wouldn't do it if there was only a limited amount of time to spend at DCA, but it's worth a visit if you have the time.

I did NOT expect to like it. I'm not a fan of Frozen, mainly due to the incredible amount of Disneyland devoted to it over the past few years. I thought the movie was fun to see once. I LOVED Aladdin. So, I truly thought I would see Frozen at the Hyperion and sneer at it and grouse some more at the Frozen Takeover. But here's what happened: I saw it and loved it. I thought it was wonderful. I saw it again twice the next month and I still loved it. I can't explain why, but I really think it's clever, funny, and full of talented performers.

I agree, I couldn't explain why, but Frozen just gripped me. I felt so much more watching it than I did Aladdin. And yes, everyone is so talented.

Can anyone comment on how younger kids would enjoy it? I have a 5 yo daughter and 3 yo son who love Frozen...they really liked the Frozen play in Fantasyland, and I think they liked whatever Frozen thing DCA had prior to this (with the librarian narrator or whoever that was?) I have the feeling that if this is just the movie acted out, and it's an hour+, it might be too long and not worth our time. And frankly if it's straight movie plot I don't particularly want to sit for an hour+. haha. Thoughts?

You might want to check out "YouTube" to see what it's all about.

Frozen at the Hyperion is the same story from the movie. If your kids enjoy the movie and enjoyed the Frozen Sing-Along, they are likely to enjoy this show. It will be an investment of time, both waiting in line and the show itself.

Snacks and drinks are allowed in the theater, and sold in the theater prior to the start of the show. While Disney is making money on these concessions, it also make the experience more enjoyable.

I did find this a welcome addition.

I saw it on Saturday. It was okay. I was orchestra too, second section. Loved the effects - staging and use of space was awesome, innovative effects and of course the performances were spectacular.

Wouldn't see it again unless the kids clamour for it next year.

I was also there on Friday and had MM. Friday was REALLY busy. We got in and made our way to ToT - at 8:20, it had a 60 minute wait. I hung out over there for a little bit while my family got in line. I don't ride that. Our priorities for this trip was one last ToT ride for them, new Soarin' and new Frozen. Anything else would be a bonus. I was going to get a coffee and relax before deciding what to FP first. As I came back onto Hollywood (way/drive/road), they were letting people into the park but holding them at various ropes - as is normal. EXCEPT - they were allowed in the Frozen FP line with the MM guests. I agree with the OP - didn't seem right to me. I used to ride attractions and just get in the RSR FP line about 10 minutes before normal opening - this would not have worked - the line was all the way down the street and guests continued to pour in. We also could only do the first show due to lunch plans and heading out early before MHP - so I waited. Without a coffee. BY 9:15 RSR was down. Luigi was down. Mater had a 40 minute wait. ToT was up to over 100 minutes. It was a really busy day. I grabbed FP for Soarin - met up with my family, rode Monsters and Soarin and went back to Frozen. We didn't think we were that far back in the orchestra line either. We did only get there 30 minutes early - not an hour. They let a bunch of people in - then stopped our line for a while - wasn't sure why. By the time we were let in, everyone already seated was on the near side of the theater and the open seats were at the far end. People were running, pushing, etc. Maybe it was like this for some Aladdin shows, too - I just hadn't experienced that before. The show itself was fine - but I also preferred Aladdin, My girls and their friends - ages from 6-11, all loved it even though they are all past the Frozen craze.

I read that starting today they are doing away with fastpasses for Frozen, and it will just be standby (which I think makes way more sense). Anyone going this week that can confirm?

We loved the show! I thought it was really well done. Elsa was fantastic! I don't know if I'd bother seeing it every trip but I'm glad we went to see it once. We did the pre show party and was worth it to not have to worry about pulling a FP and stand in the long line to wait to get in.

I want to give my input about the show. There was 6 of us total and we went to the 1:30 show on Tuesday October 11th. It was myself, DD13, DS16, DM, DD. Only my DD and myself have seen the movie. The only reason my DS went along with it was my DM bought us AP's and she told him it was the one thing he had to sit through with her. Mind you my DS is 16 and hates everything princess/musical. We all loved Aladdin but we also loved Frozen. All of us!! I looked over a couple times at my DS and he was laughing and actually paying attention. I don't think we would wait to watch it again but it was something we we're all glad to have seen it once. I think now that you don't need a FP it will make it much better.

IMO...the stage setting is way better than Aladdin!! And we loved the snow element.

Exactly. We didn't realize how early we had to show up for the show. I guess people were there an hour before the show started. I had never seen a show there before so I didn't realize how it worked. Our MM this mornin was kind of a bust anyways cause Cars was down too. But my other days were really nice and we got to do a lot in that hour.

I wish the FP would have assigned seating, I hate to spend an hour waiting to get into the show just so we can sit together. Wasn't son as when we were a family of 2 but now as a family of 5 it's harder to get enough seats and more important to be next to each other.
