That were convicted for killing their father. I hope that during their prison term they will receive the help that they need to get thru this and become productive adults.

Two Florida brothers will serve sentences in state prison after pleading guilty to killing their father with a baseball bat, a judge announced Thursday.

Derek King, 14, will spend eight years in state prison, and his 13-year-old brother Alex will spend seven years in state prison.

I hope that they get some SERIOUS therapy. 14 or not, I'm suprised that the older boy beat his father to death with a bat and will only serve 8 years. It's also very sad how their mother "left the family" (nice way to put it, I guess:rolleyes: ) when they were very young.

Does anyone know more about this story and WHY the younger brother asked his brother to kill the dad and why the older brother would agree?

I hope they have the help they need in prison :( :( :(

Maybe they're just really bad people?

Well, yes, I'd say they were bad.

I'll ask instead, does anyone know what the motive was?

Lisa, I found this in my morning paper:

"Within hours of their arrest in November 2001, the brothers confessed to smashing their father's head with an aluminum baseball bat as he slept. They later blamed the family friend who prosecutors have charged with sexually abusing Alex. Based on the boys' accusations, prosecutors first tried the friend, Ricky Chavis, who has also been charged with lewd and lascivious acts upon a child but denies abusing Alex.

After Chavis' murder trial, prosecutors tried the boys, based on their confessions. Chavis' acquittal was not disclosed until the boys' verdict was read. The boys, who were 12 and 13 at the time of the murder, admitted in their signed statements submitted to the court Thursday that they alone killed their father but that Chavis influenced their decision by providing them with marijuana and suggesting they could live carefree with him if their father were gone. "

What a horrible, horrible story!
