My DW and I just got back from a trip to the BC from 11/10 - 17. We ate at B&C twice... this is my "review."
We ate lunch once and had a late evening dessert once. We both loved the atmosphere, the music, the fun. The servers are very friendly and jovial; the place can be very loud when the jukebox is playing, but that just adds to the great atmosphere.
It's best to hit B&C during the slow periods -- not during normal meal times. It's a small place and quickly fills. We really wanted to sit for our late evening dessert and had to wait 25 mins. for 2 chairs to open at the counter.
Lunch: DW ordered the chicken noodle soup and we must have hit on a bad day or maybe it was just ladled poorly. Wound up with what looked and tasted like celery soup. It was poorly seasoned, leaving a somewhat nasty aftertaste in our mouth. Adding pepper and salt didn't help much. The overwhelming ingredient was celery, some so overcooked it was nearly transparent. There were a few unidentifiable "lumps" -- we decided NOT to ask -- you know discretion is the better part of valor. The noodles were good but not plentiful; the chicken -- well, it was AWOL.
We both ordered burgers, DW with cheese, mine without. DW ordered fruit instead of fries while I opted to clog my arteries more. The burgers were very good, and despite being well done, they were quite juicy. We both LOVED the bun-sized tomato slices. Maybe it was a fluke, but it was great getting a slide of tomato that nearly covered the burger!
The fresh fruit was tasty, the fries were -- well the ketchup helped mask their real taste. I think B&C took lessons from McD's on how to make fries taste bad. Maybe I'm just too used to artery-hardening frying oil?
Alas, we skipped dessert on this trip.
Later in our trip we returned. DW played it safe with a strawberry sundae. I threw caution to the wind and went for a No Way Jose. I figured I could handle it. HA!
The strawberry sundae was quite large & generous. There was enough whipped cream on top to float a small boat. DW pronounced it delicious and quite filling.
The No Way Jose -- well, let me say, it is aptly named. They really should warn you before you order it, but then I think half the server's fun is watching your eyes bug out when you see it coming. (Man, they must roll on the floor when someone orders the Kitchen Sink!) Anyway there's enough ice cream here for at least 2 people, maybe more. Served in a large glass, the cherry on top was -- quite honestly -- at eye level as I sat. I started in on it, but long story, short version -- I just couldn't finish it all. However, it was incredibly delightful. I would never think of mixing p'nut butter and hot fudge in a sundae, but it WORKS! It was a delicious mix of flavors that is hard to match.
Atmosphere: A+
Servers: A+++!
Food: B+ (the chicken noodle soup needs some serious help!)
We'd go back in a heartbeat -- assuming mine is still beating on the next trip! (BURP! Excuse me!
