My State Food is Better Than Yours

I am from NJ near NYC. No one can top our pizza and bagels! I have lived in SC for 6 years and it is so depressing, I cannot get yummy pizza and bagels anywhere Also, NJ has amazing bakeries! Muller's Bakery in Bay Head, NJ is the best! Crumb cake....mmmm....

I can not belive anyone from Pittsburgh has not posted yet.

Disney certainly does not have these:

Decent pierogies anywhere on site....

When you order a grilled chicken or steak salad in Pittsburgh it comes with French fries on the salad....

And lastly, one word Primanti's!!!! Where any sandwich you order comes with tomatoes, cole slaw and french fries ON the sandwich.. Hey Disney I am sure Primanti's would love to open a franchise location on property.......

I'm going to join you even though I am no longer from PA ... Southwestern PA food is the best!!! But you can't forget chipped ham, city chicken and halushki. We do pepperoni rolls too ,mmm. Unfortunately, I am not much of a southern cuisine connoisseur -- although DH is from Mississippi - so I have learned to make "dressing" not stuffing and some other southern food. As for Tennessee -- I agree that the Rendezvous BBQ is the best I've ever had but Corky's BBQ sucks, IMHO. My kids are really going to be messed up Italian/Slovak/and Mississipian, LOL. We are probably the only family that has catfish and linguini at the same meal. Sounds gross doesn't it?

I also had a deep fried snicker bar in Middle Tennessee -- oh my gawd -- best thing I ever ate.

Well, I am from Louisiana, and when I think of food I miss I think of Cafe Au Lait at the Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter, N.O., Breakfast at Brennan's (my honeymoon in 1990) also in N.O. For dinner I love The Blue Dog Cafe in Lafayette, especially their corn and crab bisque! Also, crab au gratin at the Riverside Inn in Lafayette.

Also, as one poster has said before, anything my "MawMaw" made was heavenly. She passed away almost a year ago, so I am sure all the angels in heaven are a little fatter.

Don't forget that Community Coffee, cher! I could go on, but my stomach is growling and I am no where near Louisiana right now. I am in Monterey, CA,.....so...I think I will have to open a bottle of wine to forget how much I miss that cajun cooking.

All you folks in Louisiana, you are not forgotten. We still pray for the repair of our wonderful state (not only New Orleans) and for the repair of y'all's lives.

I didn't read the whole thread, but Maryland crab cakes are the BEST!! You simply cannot get them anywhere other than MD though, no other states know how to make them properly

* Door County cherry pie
* cheese curds (fresh & deep fried)
* bratwurst on a Sheboygan hard roll
* Door County fish boils
* Cornish pasty
* Racine kringle
* Friday night fish fry
* beer
* anything grilled while tailgating at a Packer/Badger game
* cranberries (WI accounts for the majority of US cranberry production)

Can't argue with the Upstate NY wineries...I brought back 12 bottles of Bully Hill this summer! However, I would add pop-open "white hots", Abbott's custard, and Wegman's white cream donuts to the upstate NY list!

I am originally from the Pittsburgh area--actually across the border in Ohio, and we always called it "chipped-chopped ham". I remember after I moved to Phoenix in 1985 I went into a deli and ordered "chipped-chopped ham" (having NO idea it was a regional thing.) The deli workers looked at me like I had three heads! I still make halushki from time to time. I still make pierogies quite a bit--sometimes even from scratch--love 'em with onions...

Texas--our fajitas are just so good...they are just not the same anywhere else.

Great food. Great thread.
Now, wouldn't be nice if--at WDW--there were a restaurant where we could actually get the "real thing"?? Perhaps at the American Pavillion in Epcot??
It'll never happen of course, and there are far too many "items" for one place to carry.
But think about being able to get an authentic Md. Crabcake, an authentic Chicago Hotdog, Philly Cheesesteak, etc etc.
Wouldn't that be nice???

I also can't believe no other Chicagoians have chimed in about our world famous hot dogs!! Sorry Casey's Corner, but your 'dawgs can't compare!!

I can't believe it took 11 pages for someone to say this! Nobody can compete with the pizza in Chicago! The pizza at WDW is terrible. And it's so bad in California, I can't believe they have the nerve to call it pizza. Including the "supposed" Chicago-style brewery and pizza place that is so popular out there.
