When we go to Disney, we order from the kids menu for him at CS meals, but what about TS? We own DVC, and make good use of the kitchen, so our big meals are usually eaten in the villa. We haven't had a TS meal in years. When we go in June, we want to do either Sci-Fi or Prime Time. I was looking at their menu's, and DS will not eat anything off the adult menu. He likes his hot dogs.

Will they let us order something like a hot dog for him?

I just got home last night from Disney. They don't even bat an eye if the teenagers order off the kids menu. Just ask for a kids menu when you are seated. if your teen doesn't have a big appetite, you'll save a lot of money. (and really, the kids meal aren't that skimpy). My kids are 12 and 14 (and my 14 year old looks 17) They ordered from the kids menu almost every time.

If it helps, I had a similar issue with the menu at the Garden Grill for our upcoming trip--the only thing I saw that I would be willing to eat is the children's option. I called the restaurant to make sure that it was okay for me as an adult to order it (we're on DDXP) and they said that it was fine.

Our 11 & 13 year old girls ate from the kids menu at Sci Fi on Saturday with no problems at all. They even got the kids burger, which is no longer on the menu but still available if you ask

Both my DS13 and DD11 order off the kid's menu at every TS restaurant we go to, and no one has ever questioned them or told them they could not.

That's pretty funny. I'm all grown up now but I can remember being 8, 9, 10, etc. and begging my parents to let me order off the adult menu. Funny how that works.

Along the same line, our DD14 has NEVER ordered from the children's menu (except when she was dining with another family or something, then we explained the rules of the road). She had her first taste of lobster at 2 years old and never looked back.

That being said, at WDW, we see plenty of older kids ordering from the children's menu with no problems. Of course, at buffets, they'll be charged according to age.

I really don't understand how parents can have kids that won't eat such basics as:

50's Prime Time Cafe
Old-Fashioned Pot Roast - slow-cooked until fork tender served with mashed potatoes, carrots, celery and onions $16.99

Golden Fried Chicken - served with mashed potatoes, chicken gravy and southern greens $14.99

Traditional Meatloaf - a blend of beef and pork topped with tomato glaze, served with mashed potatoes, and green beans $14.99

Sci-Fi Dine In
Italian Grilled Chicken Sandwich - With bruschetta topping served on a Kaiser Roll with cucumber-melon salad or fries $13.99

Shrimp Pasta - Bow tie pasta and sauteed shrimp tossed with artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, baby spinach and feta cheese $18.99

Angus Chuck Burger - Flame-broiled beef patty topped with cheddar or swiss cheese, sauteed onions, mushrooms and crispy bacon. Served with a choice of cucumber-melon salad or french fries $12.99

Smoked Turkey Sandwich - Smoked turkey, crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato with an avocado mayonnaise on multigrain bread. Served with cucumber-melon salad $11.99

These all seem like very tame boring foods that any kid should eat. Don't your children get tired of only eating pizza, hot dogs and pre formed chicken nuggets?:sad2:

You'd think so. My 14 year old could live on those nasty nuggets. But my 12 year old will try anything once. I always encourage the 14 year old to try new things, and once in a blue moon we'll hit upon something new she likes.

My almost-teenager is a finicky eater, and NO, he would not eat a good portion of the foods listed above (at least without a little modification). And no, he doesn't get tired of eating the same old thing every day. He could happily eat pasta (minus the shrimp.....nothing that swims, or used to, thank you very much  ) every single day for the rest of his life and die a happy man.

So for our upcoming trip to Disney, we're sticking with lots of buffets where he can eat his fill of what appeals to him, and leave what turns his stomach. As long as he's eating healthy, I'm a happy parent :thumbsup2 . I'll be right behind him, 'cause frankly I won't eat some of the dishes you've listed here either. And I'm almost 35!

No one is asking anyone else to "understand" why their kids do what they do, or why they act how they act. Sometimes even parents can't understand their children. We just do the best we can, and try to make sure that we're not sweating the small stuff.

The fact that we're all different is what makes the world such a wonderful place to be :flower3: .

Are you kidding? There are few people in this world I dislike enough to serve PTC meatloaf to - I surely wouldn't spring it on a picky child. ;)

HEy I was pleased that mine ordered from the kids menu at Sci Fi. For < $8 they got a burger that was sized for them (I couldn't finish my "grown up burger) along with two sides, one got celery & ranch and fries, the other tomato soup and fries. At 'Ohana they could eat you under the table on pot stickers, wings and salad, and they each ate a full adult entree at Nine Dragons. We did DDP once and decided it was forcing you to order (and waste) too much food. As long as they are still allowed to order from the kids menu if available, I'll definitely pay OOP

At CG, the waitstaff informed us that our children 14 & 11 were welcome to order anything off the kid's menu & they would just make it "adult sized" for them....with adult prices of course! ;) Not that they don't occasionally order adult meals, but sometimes they just want chicken fingers or pizza so I'm glad the option is always there to do so. :thumbsup2

Speaking as the parent of a 12yr old who begs for Spinach, I know how fortunate I am. Some of my friends have children who will only eat chicken nuggets, cheese pizza and mac& cheese and I can't comprehend it but it sure makes dinner time easy at the WDW. I can't imagine how these children manage nutritionally but they do.

I sympathize with parents of picky children! I'm very lucky DS(12) eats everything except shrimp & brussel sprouts!

Thanks for all the responses. Looks like we won't have a probelm at all. We don't do the dining plan, so I plan on paying accordingly. This is the answer I was looking for. :)

Cucumber melon salad, artichoke hearts, avocado mayonnaise, bruschetta are tame boring foods that any kid should eat? Seriously? Please do not be offended, but do you have kids? My 15 yo will eat these things, but he did go through a very long phase of pizza, hot dogs and chicken nuggets. At home, he often went to bed hungry because he refused to eat what I served and I refused to make him another meal. Kids can be finnicky.

To the OP, the servers at WDW are great. They will make sure your DS is happy and will accommodate his tastes, so don't worry a bit!

I think you can all eat what you want as long as you pay what they ask.

I had the pot roast there and I'll match your meatloaf to the pot roast. Horrid. I'd never expect a kid to eat it.

My husband orders stuff off the kids menu and they charge him adult prices. He likes plain stuff and I dont. It creates issues when I want to go some place cool. The only plain stuff is on the kids menu. He's only been told once since we started going to Disney 10 years ago. If you pay like and adult, they give you an adult portion of the kids food. At least where we ate. Then they took pity on me. :3dglasses
