Yesterday, my son went out bike riding after school. As he is riding down the street one block over, he hits a rock in the street and ends up flipping over the bikes handle bars and the bike crashes down next to him. That, in itself, knowing my son, is not enough to freak me out....but the fact that the bike actually BROKE in half does rattle the nerves!! :earseek: Somehow, the front wheel and struts are on one half, the rest of the frame on the other!! He is so lucky that he didn't get more banged up that just the scrapes on his hands and that there was no traffic coming when this happened.

I have called the bike company and they want me to send them photos of the bike and they will determine which parts need to be replaced and they will send them to us. This is one time (aside from using it in Disney!) that I really appreciate the digital camera! I got their email address and will get the photos out to them this morning.

Boys!!!

Wow! Glad he is OK!! Glad the bike company is taking interest & not just "blowing you off".

Just out of curiousity...what kind of bike did he have?

I told my DH what happened and he agreed that your son was very lucky. He's a cyclist/triathlete and he has seen many people wipe out on their bikes usually resulting in a few broken bones.

Tell your son we hope he's feeling 100% soon.

:sunny:

He has a Magna 26" Mountain bike. When I download the photos to send to the company, I'll have to post one. It is amazing to see this thing....the only thing that is still connecting both sides in 1 brake cable!! The bike isn't even 2 yrs old yet and it is kept in the shed so it's not like it has been 'weathered' and rusted. Aside from a few scrapes on the seat, it looks brand new!!

Wow, he is very lucky. The instinct is to catch yourself with your hands, which winds up with broken arm bones (as DH can attest...broke both arms in one mountain bike crash). Your DS must have fallen correctly by tucking and rolling. You don't say, but I assume he had a helmet on which probably saved some possible serious injury when he "endoed" (DH says this is what this kind of wreck is called in mountain bike lingo.)

Here's a picture of Kirk's "2 wheeler"!!

Just spoke to the rep from Magna bikes. They were totally amazed at the break in my son's bike and said, aside from jumping it off a 30 ft cliff, they have no clue why it would of broken that way. They said the break is in such position, the only thing they can think of is that there was a bad weld on the bike! :earseek: They are sending him a FREE replacement bike!! :teeth: We'll have to put it together or have it assembled professionally, but hey! I am really impressed with their customer service!!! ::yes:: :bounce: Should be arriving UPS in 7 - 10 days! :hyper:

I am so glad your son is ok!!! My DS did this when he was about th same age, hes now almost 18 unfortunalty he was on a very steep hill, brok his front tooth in half and had to get stitches in his chin. The tooth thing is the worst, its his permanant tooth an every few years it breaks off and we spen anoth 300. bucks at the dentist:o It stinks so im glad yours is ok

Yikes, how scary! And how good of the bike company to send you a replacement.

Oh my!!! Glad to hear your DS is okay!! Glad the bike company is helping you out, too.

We have dealt with them before and they were really great! It wasn't anything major, but when my youngest was 4, there was a problem with her front tire. I forget specifically what it was....for some reason, the tire was loose where it connects to the front frame (the arm part) and we couldn't get it to tighten. They sent us a replacement front tire...no questions asked! :teeth: I would never hesitate to purchase a magna bike!! They told me that all their frames come with a life time warranty!! ::yes::

Maybe I'm cynical, but I wouldn't be bringing out the band to celebrate Magna's customer service. I'm a fairly protective mom because I learned the hard way that terrible things happen and no one is going to look out for your child if you don't.

A quick google search on Magna brought up several recall notices on the first page. I would think that the bike falling apart might have been the cause of your son's fall. At least one of the recalls stated that the defect could lead to falls. My guess is that customer service was quick to act because they know they have a problem.

Fortunately your son is okay. But if it were my child, I'd think long and hard before putting him on that bike even after it had been repaired.

Glad he's ok, and that the company was so responsive.

KarenC - they're sending a replacement bike, not parts to fix the old one.
