My son won't ride on JP

River Adventure was still boarding boats with the old restraint until this winter, when finnally all the boats were outfitted with the old restraint.

I knew that the JP had lap bars, but from what I'm hearing, the new one give more of a feeling of security. I'll find out in s few more months! As for my own preference, I've always loved the feeling of not being restrained when riding JP, since the old lap bars were not right up against me.

The last time I was there, it was the first time I had ridden with the new lapbars, and it really did feel like they cradled you in. My friend and I always try to do an imitation of a picture of my dad at the fall, where, while everybody else is freaking out, he has a calm, serean look on his face. This last time, i did a pretty good imitation, since the new lapbars made me feel more secure.

My problem with the old lapbars was that I never knew how to "hold on" when the fall came. These new lapbars are tear drop shaped, so they restrain the whole front of your torso. You really do feel cradled and held in.

Tell your son that I'm a coaster nut, and that water rides, especially JP and Ripsaw, have always bothered me, but now, I feel alot more secure with the new JP lapbars. The same thing happened at Ripsaw last time, when I was forced to ride with my large friend in that akward seating order. It felt akward throughout the whole ride, but once the fall came, I knew I wasn't going to fall out!

My son and I both love Splash Mountain but we just kind of close our eyes and hang on for dear life during the drop. How does the JP drop feel compared to the Splash Mountain version? I'm still trying to deal with the fact that it's taller.

I think tht what makes JP different then other drop rides is that the fall is in the dark. As you approach the fall, you kinda don't know what your in store for. There's no view of the landscape and uncoming fall to prepare your self with.

I remember riding the Tidal Wave log ride at Busch Gardens, which is 55 feet, before I was even brave enough to try coasters, and not having any problem with it. Of the couple of times I have riden Splash Mountain, I have never been truly scared. I think, with both those examples, the easy part comes when you reach the top, and you can assure yourself by assesing how high you are and route the boat will follow. It's as easy, for me atleast, as reaching the top of the coaster mountain, and realizing how well strapped in you are, and where the track is headed. (Most people are scared of coasters because they choose to close their eyes during thr ride, and imagine the most horrible things).

With JP, there isn't that view. You're kinda just falling into darkness. While on the other rides you can look up at the sceanery, or down towards where your going to fall, on JP all you can do is brace yourself and stare into the dark. The hight of JP has never been a factor for me; It's the uncertainty of the whole situation that gets to me. The same goes with Ripsaw. While Ripsaw does fall in the open air, the unrestraint log seating, plus the change in degree of the fall (from 45 to 50), which gives you the sensation of the log tumbling over, adds to that same uncertenty.

In my opinion, the JP drop is a lot scarier than the Splash Mountain drop!

Interesting to read that my husband wasn't the only one who suffered with a cracked rib after riding JP. He himself is 'well padded', but he was really sore for a few weeks after riding. Rather spoiled our holiday.

I'm usually a 'chicken' and won't ride roller coasters but I didn't think JP was that bad - long and steep - but not that bad. Fortunately my 'extra padding' kept my ribs safe!

How high is Journey To Atlantis drop at Sea World? That ride was awsome and scary. I mean we went down the main drop and I was relieved it was over then we come around the bend and I see an incline and I was like "OH @#@$" I liked that last drop because it wasn't really a drop but more of a Rollercoaster, It emptied the water out of the log.

I use to ride it all the time when I worked for Sea World, I usually got off work at 3pm but I had to stay until 5pm so for 2 hours I would head over to Wild Artic and Atlantis.

Journey to Atlantis' drop is either 60 or 65 feet. I forget off-hand.

I was scared the first time I rode on this too. It took me along time to finally go on rollercoasters' and rides like that. If this makes him feel better I was older than 11 when I first rode Jurassic Park and Rock n Rollercoaster. The way I finally got on these rides was waiting till I was ready. After passing the ride I was scared of a few times I was okay with going on it.
