Some of you may recall I now homeschool my kids. We've been doing this a year and a few months. My son was a poor reader/speller and getting lost in public school. He's in second grade, and last night I walked into his bedroom and he WAS READING a HUGE book for FUN! He's been reading for a while now, but never for pleasure. Last night was a real milestone for us!!!!! We all piled into mom and dads bed and he read an entire chapter to us. Ahhhhhhhh........ a GREAT feeling!

It makes all the hard work worth it 100%.:cheer2:

That's wonderful! :thumbsup2 The love of books will be a blessing in his life..:goodvibes

Congratulations to you and your son! The joy of reading is a wonderful gift to give to your child. :) You must be so proud.

We also decided to homeschool our DD for Kindergarten this year and we are all loving our time together. It's scary to step outside the box and do something different, especially when it involves something as important as your child's education. But what a wonderful feeling when it's a great success.

Keep up the great work!

That's great! Your son has discovered the world of books is a door to all kinds of wonderful adventures! :thumbsup2

Congratulations! I love, love, love seeing my kids reading for fun. I love, love, the piles of books around the house.

Wonderful! I'm a reader and have always wished that my kids had picked up my love for reading but not 1 of the 3 has.

Our oldest HATED to read. He could read in kindergarten and read required books for school but that was it. We had him tested in 5th grade for learning disabilities because he was not doing well in school. He tested out at a junior in college reading level--we were SHOCKED because the only thing we could get him to read were his Nintendo game guides :lmao:. His English teacher in 7th grade somehow turned him on to reading and now reads constantly. His 11th grade English teacher at conferences last year told us "I am going to tell you something I NEVER though I would EVER say to a student, he has to stop reading so much" :lmao: He was reading novels in class instead of paying attention.
