He's been at his first job(he's in high school) since October- and he just got a $1 an hour raise.
The economy must be improving. :rotfl2:

My son started a job at a local restaurant that opened in late January. He's been trained to do most everything from prep, to cooking, to serving, bussing, washing dishes and running the game room. He got a $1 raise this week - pretty good for only a couple months, I thought.

The is Fantastic!!

I certainly hope that they economy is getting better. There have been absolutely no raises where I work for over 6 years now.

My DH didn't get a raise for a long time. I'm not even sure how many years. Then this past June he got a raise, and then another one in January this year. We were so happy. He works in the automotive industry, so I figure if his company has started giving raises the economy must be improving!

Great job to your son OP!

Wow, I have never heard of a teen getting that much of a raise after probational period. Like others said, 30 cents raise is about normal, if you even get a raise these days.

Congrats to him, that is a great raise.

He must be very excited!

Congrats. Must be exciting for him. :) Great motiviation! Do good work and you get rewarded.

Where are they hiring in NJ?

My 17 yr old can't find anything- he's looked for 2 solid years. He's an honor student, can drive, strong availability.

Most places are 18 and up only- even fast food!

When I used to be a manager at a fast food establishment, we had many instances where this happened, for a few different reasons. For teens 16-17, they were started at minimum wage, even when that wasn't the "typical" pay rate for workers... after a period of six months or so, they were bumped up a bit. For teens 14-15, at the time, and where I lived then (PA), it was legal to pay a "training wage" that was even lower than minimum wage, for a period of time. Also, we sometimes had teens who, after demonstrating they learned the job and were reliable, could be moved to different shifts that paid a bit higher.

Anyway, my point is, it certainly can happen (well, OP knows that!) Congrats to OPs son!
