She's been doing Atkins for a couple of weeks I guess, and hasn't lost weight, so she called the Atkins Center today (it's in NYC and she lives in NYC). I thought this was interesting and just wanted to pass along this info...this is the email she sent me...
hi. called atkins center, ordered hf-12 for hypoglycemia, and talked to a consultant. told her what i've been eating, like roast beef, hardboiled eggs, tuna, cheese...she said to limit the cheese to 3-4 oz., which i knew. she asked me if i'm eating mayo with the roast beef and h.b. eggs and i said no. she said i'm doing a lowfat version of the diet, which won't work, and to add more fat!!! she also said to limit protein to 4-8 oz. per meal. she said to NOT eat more cheese when i'm hungry, but more protein WITH fat. she said that even tho i'm in ketosis, the meds slow weight loss and that it was excellent that i'm in ketosis and the weight loss should start soon, and to call next week.

Isn't that amazing? I did the same thing the 4th week, didn't eat enough fat.

My husband stopped losing for a week but he dropped inches instead, a lot of inches. We had to have his suits altered. I hope your sister is measuring herself too. Apparently it is common to lose inches when you aren't losing pounds on Atkins.

I went to a nutritionist last week for my high cholesterol and diabetes. They strongly recommended me not to do Atkins, even though my doctor had suggested it. It has to do with the reasoning that when you limit your carbs, then the body feeds off of your protein intake which is not good for your organs. They have me eating 120g of carbs a day (3 meals, 3 snacks) for my hypoglocemia. I have been eating their suggested guidelines for a little under a week and I am starting to feel better and I have lost 2lbs. I think I wasn't eating enough carbs when I was trying to lose weight. Only time will tell....if I get down past the plateau point that always stops me.

Whatever eating plan makes you feel better and still lose weight, Believe, is the best one for you.

Atkins isn't for everyone. Congratulations on your weight loss, sweetie.

I agree. I definitely don't think that Atkins is the only way to go.

I spent a whole day out with a friend of mine who isn't doing any particular "name brand" diet...she just cut down on fat, and has lost quite a bit of weight since last summer. We ate 3 meals together and got a kick out of how different the items we could each eat were...kind of like Jack Sprat and his wife. :)

I agree that it depends on the person on what eating style works best for them. It is the same for exercising, my body gets more out of walking than aerobics. I was just surprised, with hypoglycemia the carbs are a big part of my diet but I am guessing the the hf-12 will supplement the carbs. I know of others who have done Adkins and it worked out great. I was just surprised, with hypoglycemia the carbs (spaced out) are a big part of my diet but I am guessing the the hf-12 will supplement the carbs.
